August Has Arrived

Hi everyone.

August has arrived, much too quickly if you ask me. My husband's favorite quote  at this time of year is "Nothing is faster than July except for August." Let's hope that's not true, and we have plenty of summertime ahead.

It's a new month time for a new challenge at Art Journal Journey.

Thank you again to Wendy for hosting over at Art Journal Journey last month. And thank you everyone who joined in with some wonderful Door and/Or Arches themed art.

Now that it is August, we want to welcome a new host. This month the talented Chris ,who you might know as pearshapedcrafting, is our host. Chris' new theme is

When We  Were Young.

You can read about her theme on the AJJ homepage.

I made this inked and stamped page for my first example for this challenge. I'm not sure it's my best ever page as I managed to get a few bits off kilter. But in the playful world of childhood, things can be crooked, can't they?

Whoops, as you can see, when I stamped the walking children silhouette a little crooked, I tried to fix that with a piece of tape. That image is an oldie from Hero Arts. I also stamped the poem (not sure who made that stamp). The clouds (Carabelle Studio) and all the flowers (an ancient Kim Hughes set from Cornish Heritage Farms) as well as the sun (maker unknown) are all also stamped. With the clouds I used a white paint pen to give them a touch of white. With the flowers I used markers and  paint pens to color them in.  The sun is stamped on white paper, painted with some yellow gouache paint and then fussy cut.

And here's the poem.

Boy everything on my close up page looks like it is sliding one way or the other in this photo. Smile.

Remember at Art Journal Journey we accept only art journaling, but it can be art journaling in any form. NO cards, tags or other forms of art please.  Please read through the dreaded rules if you have any questions.

I'm looking forward to this month's challenge and also to all the pages "When We Were Young" inspires people to make.

Thanks for visiting.

Actually, when I saw the children, I thought they were walking down a hill. It never occurred to me you meant otherwise. I know Chris is going to love this first entry, because besides loving this theme, Chris loves gardens. Those flowers and the garden quote are absolutely perfect. This is a fabulous first entry at Art Journal Journey using Chris's theme.

Hi Erika, this is a great first entry for Chris's new theme! Love the colours, and it doesn't look off kilter to me! Love the poem/quote you added. It's nice to be back! Have a great week, take care, hugs, Valerie.

Cute page. Maybe those children are on the slippery slope from Summer vacation to school! Did you get rain last night? We did. It's still murky this morning, but supposed to clear this afternoon with a rise in humidity. I'm not complaining!

Such an evocative poem and a truly pretty and gorgeous page. I love how you used the various materials - it shouts "childhood" to me.
I love how the children are strutting their stuff down the hill, a fab stamp.
Hugs, Neet xx

You know, Erika, I had the exact same problem on my Mystery Date spread, nothing on it except the washi tape is straight, lol. I was hoping you'd like it, thanks for the comment and I found the pics on the internet. Googled. This is such a sweet page and wouldn't be as sweet if it were all straight so there! Love the poem, flowers, clouds and kids. Hope you had a marvelous time at the wedding, xoxo. P.S. enjoyed hearing Cornish Heritage Farms and Kim Hughes again, I have some of theirs too, heehee. xoxo

I like the slant and had assumed it was intentional. It adds movement :)
