T Stands for a New Dishwasher

     Hi everyone. Happy new week to you. And a warm hello to those of you who stop by  Bleubeard's and Elizabeth's blog  blog for T day this week. And a warm hello to everyone else who stops by too. 

    Last week flew by even though we had a lot of rain and clouds. At least we didn't get snow. 👍 I went out to lunch and saw the movie Project Hail Mary with some friends one day. I really liked it. It was actually the second time I saw it because I went with my husband right after it started playing.  It's based on the book by the same name by Andy Weir.  I  enjoyed the book when I read it several years ago, and since I'm not a huge Sci Fi reader, that surprised me. I think I need to read it again however to see how it compares to the film. 

   A few weeks back our dishwasher (which was almost 14 years old) started doing a weird thing. You'd close the door, and it would turn itself on and start washing. No matter how many times you hit the off button, it wouldn't turn off. Although it still washed no problem, the electronic panel was obviously shot.  We turned the power off on the dishwasher, and after a few days of hand washing dishes we decided we'd go and buy a new one. 

    My husband is a very handy guy, and he had installed the couple of other dishwashers we have had in the 36 years we've lived in our house.  The store where we bought this new dishwasher (a local appliance and TV store) had it in stock, so we were able to bring it home the same day we purchased it. 

    My husband had to pull out the old dishwasher first, so the new one sat boxed up in our living room for  a day. 

   Please ignore the mess on my counter, but the old one is now out.

   We moved the new dishwasher into the kitchen to install it. That's when my husband discovered that the plug for the new dishwasher was not on the same side as it was on the old dishwasher. He also discovered that this dishwasher (unlike the old one) just fit into the spot under the counter. And when I say it just fit, I mean there wasn't even a millimeter of spare room.

    Since my husband still works 3 days a week, the dishwasher had to sit where you see it in the above photo for a few days. That meant more hand washing dishes (by far not the worst thing), and that we had to work around it in our already small kitchen (that was the tricky part). It meant it was a tough week for cooking anything.

    When his work week was finished, he engineered a way to move the plug. That took a bit because he had to go through the basement ceiling /kitchen floor that was well as the thick layer of insulation that was there . It's a good thing he is not only handy but is an engineer so is good at solving problems like this. 

    You might remember how  earlier in this post  I wrote that the dishwasher just fit in the space. Our cabinets and counter top are about 50 years old (another project one of these days), and so he had to cautiously jack up the counter top just to get the dishwasher in. 

    Luckily that went smoothly, although it took both of us to maneuver it into the space. We didn't want any crinkled hoses or electrical wire.

    Now it's in! I noticed when we went dishwasher shopping that many now come with a third upper rack for silverware  or more so for us for things like container lids, spatulas and big cooking spoons. I love this new-to-me feature. I think this dishwasher has so much more room for dirty dishes because of that. 👍

  For T day this week let me show you some clean glasses. I was emptying the dishwasher the other day and when I had just a few glasses left to take out, I thought of this post and snapped this photo.

    There are some other glasses in this post, as well  as a couple of bottles of coke products that both my husband and myself had put down when we moved in the dishwasher.  If you didn't spot them, there are plenty of glasses here to serve as my drink for this week. 😉
