Two for Thursday

Hi everyone.  Happy Thursday.  We've got some heavy rain today as tropical storm Fred is moving through the area.  I'm home though, so sounds like a good reading or art day. Maybe I'll even finish a movie on Netflix that I fell asleep watching last Saturday night. Smile.

Today I have 2 pieces of art to share with you.

I'll start with this tag for Michele's blue and orange challenge at Tag Tuesday. I really enjoy using these 2 colors together.

Today's tag is made with some stenciling, a bit of masking and paper tape,  some vintage cloth ric-rac trim, a vintage bluebird image,  some bronze metallic paper trim, a made to look vintage blue ticket as well as some TH quote stickers. Plus a few small bits I picked up off my work table as well as a black Sharpie and a white pen.

Wow, that is a lot of items to make such a small piece of art. Smile!

I also have another page for Neet's TYPE challenge at Art Journal Journey
This time is it a bigger piece made with fewer items off my work table.

I do love making pieces that help clean up the mess! (And boy my happy place is a HUGE mess right now. I'm making a sad face as I write that.)

This page is in my new garden journal. I started with this very very old letter stencil (remember Wordsworth stamps?) and some white paint. Once dry I created a little corner image using some scrap paper and scrap tissue paper, a vintage bird image, some pink foil flowers and a lace butterfly. Finally I added the quote from an Art By Marlene quote sticker booklet.

I'm also linking up at Creative Artist Mixed Media Challenge as there are many types of media on my journal page.

Today I have some more sunflowers to share with you. These are not from the big field that I showed you yesterday.  At the farm where they had the sunflower festival, they also had a large garden  where they grew different varieties of these beautiful flowers. Some of these are far from your typical sunflower.

Did you notice the bees? The gardens were literally buzzing with them.
I also hoped you enjoyed the blossoms. The sunflowers really make me happy.

Thanks for visiting.

Your blue and orange tag is the happiest tag with these lovely oranges and blues and I very much like the pattern you've created (with masking tape?), it looks really good. I also like the shades of blue and orange you've used, they go together really well. The bird is just a perfect addtion. It's all good.
Your next piece is different and I love it too with the bird and the little row of dark flowers along the bottom.
Super fun art, Erika.

Fun tag. Those colors really make the bluebird stand out. I like the texture of the letters on the Denim page. The bird and the butterfly turn the denim from plain to fancy. Stay dry today and have fun making art, reading, or watching the movie.

I never knew there were so many different types of sunflowers - how lovely to see them all in the one place like that - and such a great attraction for the bees.
Love the tag, so vivid with its orange and blue.
Loving your denim page - what fabulous lettering that stencil has given you. It's kind of old English writing with its flourishes and the broad and narrow strokes. Such a pretty bird and love the lace butterfly (I have some somewhere that came from Bruges - Belgian Lace).
Lots of different mediums here Erika to make up a lovely page.
Thanks for joining me again at Art Journal Journey with my theme 'type'.
Hugs, Neet xx

Hi Erika, what an awesome tag that is! So gorgeous and your photography is incredible. I'm not ready for sunflowers to leave and fall to come... :( But will enjoy it nonetheless. Hugs, Autumn

That is indeed a lot of material for such a beautiful piece!
Love the second, too.
And BIG WOW to the sunflowers, what a variety, I´ve never seen those here in Germany!
I had some on my balcony and when summer was over wanted to bring them to the compost place. Duuuuh. In one a bee did hide. Bee stings hurt! She "saw" into my finger, uhhhh. If carpenters were that quick ;-)

Sorry I am late visiting. On Friday, I was without power for over 16 hours. I am having a love affair with my AC about now after surviving 100+ F temps without it! I thought about you while I was offline yesterday. I had heard before the power went out that anyone in New England should get their boats out of the water and I thought of you and your husband (and his boat).

Your bluebird is beautiful. I am in awe of that tag. You put so much into it, dear. The background goes so well with the focal image, because of the stark contrast.

Another lovely bird graces the journal page. The denim background is great and I love how you used that stencil to your advantage. Again, the contrast is superb. Beautiful butterfly and a great way to use leftover items. Thanks for an exceptionally inspiring art journal page using Neet's theme at AJJ.

I love how you shared sop many beautiful colors of sunflowers. These are all wonderful. People are used to the yellow and brown type, but throw in other colors and it surprises them. Thanks for sharing these beauties.

I love both tags -- and as far as I'm concerned, share all the sunflowers you like! I adore them!

I'm loving all the orange and blue for this challenge.

I'd never have known some of these as sunflowers. Such variety in form and color!
