In Like a Lion

Hi everyone.

March has not been a very spring like month so far here in New Hampshire. We've had cold, wind, and even a little bit of snow.  And after the snow we had just about a week ago, we need to go through the  melting process again, but this time with a few new inches on top of the old.

I have a spread for this March weather with some wind and then tea to warm you up, along with wishes for some early signs of spring.

I started by stamping these teapots. This is a new Dylusions set that I recently bought. I like the size of the teapots, and surprisingly I only have 1 very small teapot stamp but several tea cup stamps. I also like  how fun these teapots are. After stamping them,  I  colored them in.

I wanted something to represent the wind, so I used a water wave stencil and drew in the waves  with  watercolor markers around the teapots. When I was packing up part of my play space and moving things I came across a box of Farber-Castell watercolor markers that I have no recollection of buying. That in itself was unusual because I love trying out new media products when I get them. Somehow this box got put on top of a shelf where I couldn't see them (thanks to me being short), and so the good news is it was like getting a new toy.

I had to try them out now that I found them.

I  used a wet brush to spread out the colors from the wave lines onto the overall page. Those marker create wonderful bold color. In fact, the colors competed a bit too much with my teapots, so I sponged a bit of gesso with a paper towel here and there  and that muted them just enough.

I then drew some flowers growing out of the tea spouts. I also drew the bird, kites and the rain shoes as well as the hearts. I stamped the bowler hat and also used a stencil to make the rainbow. The umbrella is stamped but I drew in the rain drops. Finally, I used some letter stickers and added the quote. I didn't use the second part of the quote that said "and we shall have snow" because snow is not very spring like. (Even though its not unusual here to get it in early spring.)

I must say my muse is loving my new temporary workspace. I think it is because the woodstove is in the dining room, and I can stay toasty warm working.  Surprisingly the mess doesn't bother me much either, as long as I keep it off the table.  But good luck walking around the table. Smile.

Every time I sit down for a nice long art session I seem to have more piles on the floor.

I hope you like my page, and that the new month is treating you well so far.
Thanks for visiting.

Love your work, but ohhhh. I just wanted - and will! - clean up here. LOL
Faber Castell does a lot of things!
Ingo just got the repaper-set (for me, without asking. I don´t want it and it does not work on my PC, plus I have enough stuff, argh!)

P.S. Hope the sunflowers do some magic. It´s bitterly needed.

What a fab find that set of markers was. They work perfectly for your interpretation of Spring.
I do love this representation of how your Spring is. You have captured the look of the wind with using that stencil and the teapots merrily dancing across. I have not seen those stamps, must have a look, but what fun they are and how brilliantly you have used them. I love your interpretation of Spring.
Hugs, Neet xx

That's a really cute page!

I remember those days in March when the snow was still on the ground! The year we came to Ireland from Maine was a long winter. We moved at the start of April and there was ice and snow on the ground!

the teapots are so cute. I like the way the gesso looks like wind. How cool is that finding a new toy! Like I tell the Young One when she's looking for new art supplies try shopping at Mama's first! Your floor looks like my floor! Now I don't feel so bad!

Good morning Creative Maven, Erika. This is a lovely piece you have created for spring. I am happy to report that it is well on its way. Yesterday we found our first Red-winged Blackbird and Common Grackle. And the Mourning Doves were very amorous. As for your cluttered space, I think it was Einstein who said something along the lines that if a cluttered desk is the sign of a fertile mind imagine what an empty desk signifies. It is safe to say that you are firmly entrenched in the former. Hugs, David

I'm loving both your page and your temp work space! It's always fun to see what surrounds fellow artists. You did a great job with the watercolor markers. I have had continual trouble with them from day one. Not sure if it's me or the markers!

Spring! I love that you're being so enabled by your space :)

I grew up being taught _If_ March comes in like a lion it'll go out like a lamb, but if it comes in like a lamb (as it did this year) it'll go out like a lion. I'm not looking forward to March 31st this year...

Happy March Erika and what a super double journal page. I do like those Teapots, it's one thing I know I do not have amongst my greedy stamp stash. You sure have had a mix of weathers like us with the horrendous storms which have kept me away from home and at my MIL as she is petrified of the string winds as she (for the moment) lives amongst huge Oak Trees.
I never count it to be Spring until we cross the other side of mid March, plenty of time for that thaw. Enjoy sat by the wood burner and crafting amongst creative things, we will soon be outdoors doing it all again in a different environment. Hugs Tracey xx

Hi Erika and thank you for your regards on my site ♥️
I've been very distressed about the situation of our country as a neighbor of Russia. We have so horrible memories about our last war. My family is one of 400 000 refugees who must leave homes and to escape our enemies... As Ukrainian people now.
I'm happy that president Biden met our president yesterday. To day the Swedish primminister and our prime minister met themselves and discussed co-operations her.
I wish your weekend is happy. Your AJ pages are beautiful. Tee is reassuring drink, love your art 😍

Thank you Erika for taking part of my worries. I was a baby and can't remember the happening but heard a lot from my parents later. It changed their life totally.
Let's hope the war stops soon, and all can be safe again. Ukrainian refugees have already come here. We very much welcome them - maybe for our background.

Yes, I like your AJJ spread very much! Love your rainbow, the winds and those teapots. Love love all your doodling too. Had to enlarge the photo of your temporary creating space - fabulous stove, wow! And both the tablecloth and the windowsill teapot remind me of Mary Engelbreit. Those markers you found were a great gift for you, yes, like Christmas. I'm always finding little gifts like that, they are fun! xoxo
