Spring Showers

Hi everyone.

I hope you are having a nice weekend with  spring like weather.

I can't say our weather is really spring like here in New Hampshire. It has been cold like January, although we should see some warm up this new week if the weather folks are right. My weekend has been busy. My daughter's been home, and there's also been work in the spare bedroom.

And thanks to all of you for the birthday wishes also. I had a low key day because it was very cold out, but I made some art, and we had some Mexican food take out for dinner. Plus my daughter came home so I can't complain.

I did want to post another journal spread for Valerie's spring challenge at Art Journal Journey.  You probably have heard the quote "April Showers Bring May Flowers". I know it isn't April, but spring is known for rain and mud, so I decided to do a page with a little twist.

One of the small paper pads I am trying to use up is a cat and dog vintage one from Graphic 45.  I used 2 pieces of paper for this spread, the turquoise  umbrellas with the turquoise gingham on the back, and then another page of the same designs in black.

I used 2 different raindrop stamps to fill in the white space.

Then I used more scrap paper from this pad for my quote, "raining cats and dogs". I also added some images I cut out of a 4th piece of paper.

Finally, I used the 2021 Doggie Daycare calendar and cut out photos with Maddie to give my spread a little more interest.  Smile. I'd include Pete, but he got too nervous at Doggie Daycare so he doesn't go any longer.  Maddie is 8, and so in most of her photos she is relaxing. Her major play, play, and play days are over, but she does still get frisky for a short burst here and there.

As I have one square photo on this page (plus LOTS of rectangles which are kind of like squares), I am also linking up to River of Creativity, challenge #11 for March. The theme is still anything goes, with optional squares.

And let me update you on my spare bedroom/studio project. (I'm sure you've been impatiently waiting all week for this-ha ha ha!)

Last week we got the old ceiling ripped down in the closet area. Because we don't have room to move everything out of the space, the plan is to put up a new ceiling here and then move my workbench into this area, and redo the ceiling on the other side of the room. (The other side of the ceiling is smaller because there's a skylight there. And half the room has a wood ceiling part of our post and beam construction already which will not be touched.)

Here's a look before the ceiling came down. You can just see the wood ceiling on the right that is not coming down. You can also see the skylight area which instead of a swirl ceiling has a popcorn ceiling.

And here is the ceiling all pulled down. There's one bit of electrical box moving that needs to done from the closet light., but the hubby will do that before the ceiling is installed.

The hubby told me he didn't need my help this weekend.  He went out Saturday and got the tongue and groove wood for the new ceiling, and he worked patching up the strip where the closet wall had been attached to the room back wall. Today (Sunday) the ceiling gets started. Meanwhile my daughter and I went out browsing yesterday, and I had fun  spending some time with her. And I am sure my husband was actually happy to have some work time on his own.

I'm hoping today, after this post goes up, he will get the ceiling up so I can urethane it this up upcoming week. And also then I can prime the walls in this are also. I'll have to let you know in the next update.

Wishing you a nice start to the new week.

Looks like that your art room project is running really well. We have been enjoying the spring like weather since the start of this week...still really cold in the early morning, but it's really nice and cozy from the noon.

Wet here, and fortunately not raining cats and dogs. Rain is supposed to clear up later this afternoon. Look, there's Ink in the middle of the left-hand page! Exciting to see your room come together. Have fun!

I love the wood ceiling. I'm impressed your husband can do his own electrical work.

Happy belated birthday. Your journal is lovely. The work on the house is really coming along. It is still cold here in the 30s. Not normal for us. Have a great day.

I absolutely adore your raining cats and dogs journal pages. Of course, I have always been partial to G45. Their papers are the best. Love both opages and the way you carried the background to both sides of the spread. Thanks fpor sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey using Valerie's theme, dear Erika.

If your husband needs help with the electrical, he can call me. I am crap at plumbing, but electrical is my "thing." That doesn't look too hard to move the light fixture. Just depends on how far he intends to move it, whether it will need reinforcing or not.

So glad you enjoyed your birthday. And to have your daughter home, too was a bonus! I saw you had cake. I hope you didn't have to make it yourself.

Looks like your new room is coming on apace, Erika? I know that when it's all complete you will wish to invite the entire blogging community for a sort of official unveiling. No doubt you will create wonderful invitations for everyone, each one hand-crafted and reflecting the personality of the recipient based on clues you have gleaned from their blogs. I shall be anxiously checking the mail for mine! Hugs, David

Fantastic art journal pages. I love it. And I always enjoy seeing house projects in progress. It looks good so far.

Was it muggy there yesterday? It was very muggy here in CT. Although I'm not complaining, because it had been very cold here, and I'd rather have rain than snow. The rest of the week here looks a bit like a see saw, temperature wise.

Enjoyed reading about your spread then came to the mention of a square photo which made me smile. Thank you for the nod to our option and for adding your double spread to our challenge at River of Creativity xx
