Hi everyone. Happy July to you!
Now that it's a new month, it is time for a new challenge at Art Journal Journey First let me once again thank the talented Mia for her fun fish challenge I certainly enjoyed it. I also wanted to thank everyone who joined in with their fish inspired pages.
For July we want to welcome Wendy as our lovely host.
This month Wendy has chosen DOORS OR ARCHES as her challenge theme.
Here's my first page.
My inspiration was this yellow background paper which was an inside cover to an old magazine I recently cleaned out. I really liked the images on the page, and I ripped out the page and saved it as I thought it would make a great art background.
Even better, the page didn't sit in my stash very long as I had this idea for Wendy's door or arches challenge that I could use it for.
The door image came off of a scrap of paper that was covered with doors. I also cut some definitions out of an old dictionary. The carbon rings image is a die cut that I used 3 times. I then added a bit of yellow glitter (mainly because I had some ugly glue marks and glitter covers them over rather nicely), as well as the science word.
My quote is one reason I don't like writing on pages, as I always mess up and of course, it is often hard to go back and fix those mistakes. I meant to write doorway rather than door, which is one reason I cut out the center of the door to make it more of a doorway. Oh well, it was too hard to fix so door it shall be.
At Art Journal Journey we accept all kinds of art journaling as long as it fits with the month's theme. Please, no cards, tags, ATC or any art form that is not journaling. And as always, you have the whole month to join us.
I also want to mention that because we have our new challenge starting today at Art Journal Journey, I will not be joining Nicole at Friday Face Off nor Gillena at her Art for Fun Friday at Lunchbreak. I'll be back next week.
How a great start to your weekend and start to the new month!

I'm a science geek and this page spoke to me from the very beginning. I loved everything about it. What a great first entry for Wendy's theme at Art Journal Journey. I also like that it is a door to understanding. Maybe you made the mistake subconsciously so it would make more sense as a great play on words.
Great idea to save pages from magazines and then to actually use them. Lovely page and a nice bright cheerful colour. Hugs Wendy
The door sure is fine for me - main thing is we use science for understanding (well, and sometimes the heart, too ;-)...)
Hugs from here, oh, July already.
All the elements of your collage come together in an interesting way. Nice image.

Fun page. The carbon rings remind me of your beehives, too. Stay cool!
I am quite sure, Erika, that door conveys the meaning perfectly well, and none of us would have known that it was not intended had you not mentioned it. Some day, I want to fo through the stash of things a crafter "saves for later". It must be fascinating! Hugs - David
Preach, sister!

A fabulous page for the new AJJ Erika, I can imagine going through that door into a library, everything blends together so well, the words and images etc.

Love your direction, Erika. Super background page, lovely doorway, and cool science theme. Love it all!
PS - I feel the same about my writing but when I see everyone else's (including yours) I like it!
This is such a great page Erika! I love the magazine paper you used. Hugs, Chrisx
A fantastic page, and that's a great title Erika! Great recycling too!

AH YES, I could have won money betting you'd do science, heehee. Sorry I'm behind in commenting, but I will catch up today. xoxo
Great page, I think I prefer door to understanding to doorway. I always muck it up if I hand write on my pages. Thank you for your comment. Angela
