Friday Face Off

Hi everyone. Happy Friday to you.

What a crazy week I've had. It was supposed to be a fairly quiet week but ended up a little bit crazy. I knew Miss Maddie pup was scheduled for surgery Monday. She needed some lumps removed and a good teeth cleaning; I'm still waiting to hear back on the lump biopsies. Then Wednesday morning I got a call from my brother that my Mom had had a stroke. Off I go down to Massachusetts and spend the afternoon in the emergency room with her.  While there the doctor tells me they don't think she had a stroke but perhaps some effect from covid which she recently had again. As of this writing, they don't know what exactly is going on with her, but my gut feeling is that part of her brain is shutting down. (So if I don't get around to commenting on your post, that is why.)

And speaking of covid, I know of and have heard of too many people who have caught it lately, including my mother who had it a few weeks ago and my MIL who is just getting over it. I'm sticking with my mask, hand sanitizer and lots of hand washing. Call me cautious I guess. (And yes, I am fully vaccinated too.)

Today I am joining Nicole's Friday Face Off  and Gillena's Friday Lunch Art Date .  I'm also joining Bleubeard and Elizabeth over at Art Journal Journey with their theme of Collage Fodder or Food and Drink or Both because I am using a lot of collage fodder here.

Here's a left over page from Halloween, but it doesn't really have to be for Halloween. It has more of a Victorian medical vibe going on with it. It fits in with the way my week has gone.

This page is about the mysterious and fictitious Dr. Black, who was a Victorian forensic pathologist. Only I don't think the Victorians used the name pathologist or even the word forensic. Dr. Black also had some "powers" that allowed him to have X-ray vision. Perhaps that's because he actually isn't really an earthling, but he’s an alien posing as a mid 1800's doctor. That would explain his x-ray vision.

The background is stenciled and painted, and then I added a strip of wallpaper trim (the tan piece with the angels). I've had this roll for several years and originally found it in a markdown bin. I then layered some various images, some paper, some acetate and some on heavier cardstock. Finally I used black cloth tape along the left side as well as adding some punched out black trim.

That's it for me today. Have a great weekend everyone.

I am sorry about your mothers' situation at the moment. My sister is 91 year old and staying in nursery home. They called from there and asked me is they can give her a shot of corona vaccination (5.). I said yes. I myself are going to get my 5. shot next week. Corona is spreading again, but luckily the version now is not so strong as earlier ones. Really hope so.
Your face page is well composed and I see there several handsome men, especially the biggest with a hat. Well done, my friend!

I am sending my best wishes for your mom, and for you too, Erika. Dealing with elderly people with potentially life-threatening conditions is very stressful. I think you are wise to still exercise lots of caution with COVID. It is not done with us yet, I fear, and may never be. You mention handwashing and that is a practice I have had for as long as I can remember. I always wash my hands when I come in from outside, and before any meal or food preparation. It is simply something I have done for as long as I can remember, but over the years I have had relatively few colds or other minor issues and, given the recognition of the importance of hand-washing, I suspect that it was a good practice all along. Hugs - David

I am very sorry to hear about your Mum.
Stay strong, there.... hugs. My Mum was fit in her brain till the end, it was a blessing.
My Grandmother had Alzheimer´s... terrible. I hope you get through this with a laughter or two and your Mum maybe recovers.

I love your Dr. Black.
Very well and mysteriously done, and so elegant!
Not from this earth.
My mornings start with CSI New York, I love all the (fictional?) approaches.

I hope you can enjoy your weekend... hugs.

I am so sorry to hear this about your mom. I am sending healing energy. I agree, we have never given up our masks and we just got our 5th vaccine. People are just too carless. I love your Dr. Black and the art. A wonderful piece and a great story to go with. Thank you for taking the time to join FFO.

Sorry to hear about your poor mum Erika! It must be such a worry. Glad to hear you're fully vaccinated and still taking precautions, I am too. I hope Maddie is ok too.
Your page is fabulous, I love the images you used.

Erika, nice vintage page. I'm so sorry you and those you love have had such a traumatic week. Prayers for comfort. I think you have the right idea to be covid cautious, and don't forget the flu is going around too, so another reason. Take your vitamins/supplements/probiotics, too. Good gut health is key to defending against these viruses, as I'm sure you know. I have a habit of taking Metamusil and Emergen-C powders 2x a day. I learned Vit. C helps the gut! Hope things get more calm for you. xoxo

I hope you soon have better news about your mother and Maddie. So stressful.

I couldn't leave you a comment until now because the battery in my keyboard died. Dead! It took forever for it to recharge.

I think Dr. Black is channeling Freud. He may be alien, but this is a fabulous journal page. Moody and fun, it's a perfect entry for Bleubeard's and my theme at AJJ, dear Erika.

It took me a while before I got the name of the detective. Sherlock Holmes. :)
I like your background. think I have to create (or trying to) something like that. Trouble is I don´t have much of such things. :)

We´ll see.

Love, love, love this page. Love the story behind it too - very creative!

I didn't realize men have a different skull than women other than size. I found out this: "Generally, male skulls are heavier, the bone is thicker and the areas of muscle attachment are more defined than in females. There are also key differences in the appearance of the forehead, eyes and jaw between men and women, that are used to determine the sex of a skull." So interesting. Thanks for sharing this page, my friend. Hugz

I'm sorry your mom is having such health problems. Yes, I'm fully vaccinated and masking, too, and also avoiding all interior spaces except my own home and a weekly grocery trip. One of my FB friends just had a dear friend die of Covid, and he was not elderly :( The long covid issues will affect our health systems forever :(

I like the story around your art. I want Dr. Black's hat, please.
