Thursday Art

 Hi everyone. 

I'm back today with some more assorted art starting with a tag for Michele's Back to School  challenge at Tag Tuesday. Today's tag is a little different as I took the view of a teacher looking at their students, rather than student looking at back to school.

I stamped the quote, die cut the apple, and stamped as well as fussy cut the little bookworm with the mortar board on their head.

I also have a journal page for Aimeslee's Anything Goes challenge at Art Journal Journey. 

     Back in 2017 (or so) I made a journal about the night sky. I should say I started that journal, but when it was put on the shelf, it wasn't quite finished. I decided to finish it this fall, and this is one of the new spreads I recently made.

     The left hand side of the background is a page I pulled out of a very old calendar I had (as you can see from the fringe at the edge of the image). I kept this calendar because it has fascinating very old style illustrated pages.  Since my journal has narrower pages than the calendar was, I cut the illustration.  Most of the page is on the left, and there's a little bit of it on the right. I stamped, colored and fussy cut the rocket and Saturn before adding them to my page.

     On the right hand side I added a strip of black polka dot paper (the darkness and stars) as well as a couple pieces of gold diamond trim. After staining up the remaining uncovered background I stamped this old quote that I had in my stash.

    We've been having such gorgeous weather this week I have been making a lot of effort to get out and enjoy it. Yesterday Mr. Pete and I took a lovely long walk. Maddie spent the day at the vet's getting a day long blood glucose curve done, and finally, for the first time since January when she went on insulin, her blood sugar was down to normal. ❤

Black and White +1

Hi everyone.

The last 2 weeks have flown by, and it is time once again for a new challenge at Try It On Tuesday. Thanks to all of you who joined us for our texture challenge. And thank you Carole for being our guest designer.

Our new challenge is Black and White +1.

 I began my page with a dark yellow watercolor marker and a stencil. I stenciled the leaves randomly around the page, and then I took a big wet brush and ran it over the page to spread the color. I didn't really have any page in mind when I did that; I wasn't even planning my page for this challenge, but I loved the effect. It reminded me of wallpaper, so I had the idea of making a table top and a bouquet of flowers for this still-life style page.

All the flowers, leaves and the vase are drawn as on outline with a black Sharpie on white paper. Then I fussy cut them and arranged them. The bouquet looked rather bland, so I used my black Sharpie, a black pen and a white pen to doodle in some details.  Those details really make the pieces look very different from each other. 

Finally, I stamped this fun quote.

All kinds of art with a black and white +1 theme is accepted at Try It on Tuesday. Our challenge runs for the next 2 weeks. And definitely check out the design team's pieces. They have lots of ideas to inspire you.

Since you might notice I put some tulips in my bouquet, and tulips are a spring flower, I am also linking up at Art Journal Journey, even though the particular yellow background is not really a "spring" color. This month Valerie is hosting and her theme is spring.

Butterflies and Seashells

 Hi everyone. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

Yesterday my husband and I took a trip to Connecticut to attend my niece's engagement party. The ride down from New Hampshire was horrible with all the vacationers in transit, and then we got about 10 miles from the party and it started to pour.  We decided since the party was outside we would go; I had mentioned on the rsvp that if it rained we would not attend. Luckily the rain stopped before we arrived and didn't start again until we were driving home.

 It was great to finally see not only my niece but also my brother and nephew. I was able to meet my great nephew who is already over a year old.  I had never met my niece's fiance, and he seemed really nice, as was his family. Plus, there was plenty of food unlike the vegan meal last weekend. Smile. That made the trip worth the drive.

This morning I want to share  some art. First of all, I have another page for Neet's TYPE challenge at Art Journal Journey.  The month is winding down so if you want to join in, don't wait too long.

Today's journal page was one I made back in June when the challenge  at AJJ was butterflies, but I never managed to share it. I thought I'd post it today as it has a strip of a book page along the left hand side with lots of type on it. The butterflies also have lots of Asian type on them also. I also stamped the French word for butterfly on the page a few times, with is a different font from the others examples, so there is another example of type.

I could also say it is my type of page- ha-ha-ha.  Bad joke I know.

The background is made with pink and orange paints. I also did some stamping in black and red ink. I painted the book page yellow and added that strip to the left hand edge.  Then I also added some bits of pink washi tape.

Finally I added my stamped and fussy cut butterflies, and I also added a TH quote sticker, a few scraps of white foil paper trim and a cloth flower with the center painted yellow.

I also have a tag to share today. This time Wendy is hosting at Tag Tuesday, and her theme is seashells.

I stamped a 6x6 background stamp onto my card in pink ink. In between those seastars are lots of seashells.  I used a bit of blue ink on my background, and then I used several Art by Marlene beach punch outs.  I did add some zing  some of those punch outs a bit too. 

It was fun to create a beach scene.  I haven't really done many ocean themed pieces this summer, and they are always one of my favorites to make.
