Hi everyone. Another week is flying by. Today (Thursday as I am writing this Thursday night), I wrapped up my first semester classes. I'm a little sad though; I just finished my microbiology class. Last time ever. That class was my baby that I created and developed. But, this sadness won't last very long. It is just the ending and all the goodbyes as I transition into a new semester. Tomorrow we have a mid-year teacher workday to get organized for the new semester, and then next week, I get 3 new classes. And next week we wrap up January also. Before we know it February will be here. Wow!
So today I have another page for Jo's Something New challenge at Art Journal Journey.
I made this skaters page in my winter journal. I was inspired by this image I had that included the 2 skaters you see here. It was a very vintage image, and I couldn't figure out how I was going to use it. And then I had the idea to make a more modern page and use the vintage people on it. That's what new (for me) with this page, the use of modern and vintage looking pieces together.
I really liked how I could make all these cool shapes with my ink pad (on a page I showed you this past Saturday)so I repeated it on the bottom of the pages. It reminded me of ice. I used a different blue inkpad to make some sky. Then I used scraps of paper to cut these triangular trees. The clouds are painted; it cut the skaters of of the image, and I painted the clouds.I also used a bit of Stabilo watercolor pencil around the edges of the clouds. Then I used a vellum postmark which I stamped with the posted lines, and I also used a few TH quote words.
Hope you like my latest page.
Thanks so much for visiting.

This is absolutely STUNNING, dear Erika. I'm most impressed with your combining vintage and modern. I like how well the blues and browns work together. this is a real gem. I am so glad you shared this with us today at Art Journal Journey using Jo's theme.
Seems like you really love your job. My biology teachers (plural) were all awfully bored and hence their lessons were awful.
I had very few teachers who loved their job, your pupils sure are lucky having you!
I love your skaters, they must feel like being in a dream!
Great combination, you did it with your heart, that is visible.
A nice day to you, hugs, Iris
Fabulous page Erika, love the geometric shapes, wow! Time flies, there will be some sadness when school is over for you, but think of all the wonderful time you will have to make art....Hugs, Valerie
Very cool Erika, I love the triangles, and the designs you achieved with your ink pads!

this is a wonderful, imaginative journal, wonderful, I am thrilled!
Have a nice Day,

I love the technique and the way this presents. It's really beautiful and goes in my mental bank as one of my favorites of yours!
Ending a favorite class -- and one you created -- is a sad day but oh, how that clock is ticking. And just think all the time you'll have for art, new techniques and so many more fun things a few months from now. Take it from me -- if there are people at work you enjoy and want to spend time with, you will. I was worried about that but it happens if you both want!
I agree with Elizabeth that this is stunning. I love the vintage/modern combination, and I _love_ those trees and the icy shapes.
A gorgeous winters page Erika and its a super romantic image you used time to escape and to t enjoy life.
you are having busy times at work, I wonder how you will be feeling this time next year,

It's a beautiful wintry journal spread! I love the ice skaters and the icy foreground that they are skating on with the mountains in the background 😀. Thanks so much for joining us at Art Journal Journey with your modern meets vintage pages - perfect! Happy Friday and weekend! Hugs, Jo x
You are still busy I see.
The page has interesting shapes and it's well combined wíth them.
Enjoy the weekend ☺🌸
Somehow I missed this post. It always looks so romantic when you see Victoria couples in old movies skating I love your trees and the ice though I'd prefer to be in some little tea shop having a cup of tea and some cake. Stay dry
How Amazing is your spread page Erika !! I looove it. The scene is fabulous and you have so well combinated the vintage couple and the modern elements. the ice is lovely!
i wish you a very nice weekend, and send big hugs,

Very nice way of combining vintage with the new, Erika. I could see this happy couple skating along.
Cool art Erika. Love the mountains :)
Wonderful page, Erika. I love the contrast of ultra modern and vintage. The way you combined the Tim Holtz quotes is very cever - like found poetry. Eileen xx
The combination of old and new is exhilarating in the way you have shown it. I love the way this composition was borne from the vintage skaters image and how you have used those strong triangles to represent trees. A real winner of a page Erika.
Hugs, Neet xx
