A Scratchy Drawing and Other Art

Hi everyone. Happy Thursday.

One thing I have to share today is a page to share for Wendy's challenge Doors and/or Arches at Art Journal Journey

I started my page with a piece of ledger style paper and  a wet rag that had the remains of some bronze colored paint on it. I rubbed the rag on the paper to give it that light glazed effect.

On the left side of my page, I used a bit of left over deli paper that I had painted and  had also wiped off a stencil onto.
Then I took some watered down black paint and an arch stencil and added that to my page.

I thought some vintage people were needed, so I added the  TH group of ladies. I also added the orange flowers. I thought they really carried over the orange from the painted deli paper.

The tiles are stickers (one complete and one cut in half) that I found in a sticker book of vintage images . This sticker book is one of those items I found in the mess  while cleaning out my supplies. I liked how these tiles worked with the colors on my page, plus they reminded me of some church floor tiles I have seen.  Since my ladies could well be a church social group, (that Gothic arch is making me think of windows in an old cathedral), it all works.

I am also linking up to Rain's Thursday Art Date where this week the theme is Scratch Drawings.

I don't have any of those scratch boards, (the kind where you scratch off the black to reveal color underneath and make pictures doing that scratching), but I did play around with my Gelli plate and pulled 3 prints that  remind me of  scratch boards. I used black and bright colors because that's what you often see if you have a scratch board.

And lastly in the art department today, I have a bear that I drew in my daily journal. It somewhat keeps with Rain's theme because I used lots of scratchy lines to draw him.

It is hard to use markers and draw something black because the black is so dark you lose a lot of the details. When I wanted to draw a black bear, I thought that instead of going with grey markers to shade in the details, I would just draw a lot of black lines.

It's not pretty but it works.

And I have no exciting food photos because one day I will start making more delicious looking food again. Lately we've been having salads and with something grilled or else sandwiches. My cooking interest has been traded  to my garden as of late.

That's my post. I might not get by to visit other people's posts until tonight or tomorrow (Friday) as I'm not around today. Thanks for visiting, and I hope everyone has a great rest of the week.

They are all very beautiful. I like the colour contrast between bright orange background and the black&white photos.

To my eyes, tour "scratch" bear is pretty cute. I would be happy if I could draw something like that. I like your journal page, that sentiment is so good and a great reminder. Your prints inspire me to take out my gelli plate again, I haven't used it in a while.

I had never even heard the term scratch art until recently, but I am impressed with much of the output I have seen. It must be quite time consuming and require lots of patience. Great job with the bear, Erika, Hugs - David

love your abstracts. Especially the first one. Gave me an idea I might try out. And the scratch boards. Thinking back thats what we did when I was a kid. Painted a paper full of colors using wax crayons. Then painted the entire page with black. When it dried we scratched the black away to make figures. It was fun and it was always beautiful. The colors peeking out of the black. :)

I love the orange splash of colours in your journal art! Your prints are wonderful, they have the scratch look to them, and so colourful! I don't have scratch boards either, I just love the idea of "scratching" the canvas with medium! Your bear is wonderful!!! ♥♥ The garden is a big priority this time of year!!! ☺

You are so good with your gelli plate. These turned out great, even though they weren't true scratch prints. LOVE the bear. Out of this world adorable.

Where is my head? Stressed out, I guess. I am amazed at the lovely orange on that journal page. Nice TH dolls, some I've never seen. Thanks for this beauty using Wendy's theme at AJJ.

Very nice door page, the orange makes it summery. Great quote, too. I never was into scratch art. I like your gelli print art, those will make great backgrounds. Cute bear, is that the one who visits you? lol XOX

I enjoyed your pieces of art, Erika. The bear is awesome, and all the black scratchy lines work really well. I learn something new every time I visit around. I had never heard of gelli plates before. Each of your three pieces is different, but all are vibrant. Your first piece is so cool on many levels, from the colors, to the way the stickers pull you into the center of the piece, to the ladies, and the message. Thanks for sharing how you created itHave a great week!

I was convinced I had commented on this page previously. I am sure I remember the strong orange and the beautiful imagery here.
Love that splash of vibrant orange against the neutral tones of the rest of the page which is repeated in the tiles and the flowers.
I Absolutely adore that arch, was it a rubber stamp?
Hugs, Neet xx
