Things With Wings

Hi everyone. It's Tuesday which means it's time for a new challenge at Try It On Tuesday.

     Thank you Ellie for having been our guest designer for our Here Comes Summer challenge, and thank you everyone who joined in. There were a lot of great pieces last challenge, and I had a lot of fun checking them out. 

     Our next challenge is Things With Wings. Think birds, insects, angels, airplanes...and there are a lot of other winged things too-real or imaginary.

     I made a journal page using an assortment of insect dies that I have. First I inked my page a couple of shades of blue, and then I added some ripped pieces of tissue paper. After that I added my insects, but many of them weren't standing out very well, so I used a bit of gesso to highlight them. Finally I stamped some assorted words that seemed to work with my page.

Autumn Blessings

 Hi everyone.

September is quickly winding down, and yesterday we wrapped up the Going Round in Circles challenge at Try It on Tuesday. Thanks to all of you who joined us for this  challenge.

Our next challenge is perfect for this time of year in Northern Hemisphere and also with Canadian Thanksgiving coming up. For the next two weeks our challenge is

AUTUMN BLESSINGS

This time we ask you make some art (any format is accepted) that celebrates autumn.

My page is a little different than my usual  style and used several die cuts, some fall colored cardstock papers, a couple of stamps, and my Posca paint pens.  I attached these to some ink sprayed watercolor paper.

This page took awhile to make because I had to dig out the  die for the flowers, ferns and other stems. They were definitely needing a little love. Smile.  The birds are stamped twice, once in black on my page, and then on some white paper in brown ink. I fussy cut them and drew in the details. The quote is a really ancient one from Technique Tuesday and Allie Edwards.  I finished the page by putting on some white paint dots (which were then immediately squished to form bigger blobs), and a couple of pieces of foil paper images.

Book Pages

Hi everyone. 

I'm here today with a journal page for our newest challenge at Try It On Tuesday . 

Our new challenge at Try It on Tuesday  is book pages, so you should use some book paper in your art.  I began with a piece of watercolor paper that I painted with some assorted metallic paints. Then I took a page out of an old illustrated science dictionary and ripped it into 4 vertical pieces. I attached those pieces to my painted background with matte medium. I also used some bits of a printed tissue paper. 

This page needed something horizontal, so I did some stitching in white.

I then embossed some silver paper using a TH texture fade embossing folder. This folder embosses the entire alphabet, so as you can see, I cut some the letters out of the whole image. To age it a bit, I rubbed some black ink on it. I also stamped some postmarks on wax paper so I could adhere them and get a transparent view. To finish my background, I stamped some periodic table boxes randomly on my page from an older set of clear stamps I own.

Finally I added this group of girls and stamped my quote on their skirts using white ink. I like to think these young ladies are students of science and will help open doors to women in the future.

Cut It Out

Hi everyone!

A new challenge starts today at Try It On Tuesday. For our latest challenge we ask you to die cut or fussy cut an image and use it in your creation.

So we call this challenge "Cut It Out".

I die cut the small oval frame and I stamped and fussy cut the lady's face. She definitely likes roses, wouldn't you say?

To make my page I started with a stencil and some of Dina Wakely's spray paints. I love how they work because the image doesn't smear or wipe away once dry. (And no, I am not working for herr or Ranger and trying to sell them to you.)

I then added a bit of printed tissue paper to dull down the color a bit. I stamped the lady with this ancient Postmodern Design stamp, colored her and fussy cut her out. Then I die cut the frame from white paper and inked it brown. I also added some small crafting gemstones. I added the roses (TH emphermera) , including a Japanese stamp with roses on it.  I also stamped a few postmarks to go with the stamp. Finally I used some white paint to make a place for my stamped quote. That is another ancient stamp I had from Flourishes clear stamps.

Lots of "Stuff" Today

Hi everyone.  It is a lazy Saturday morning here and I am procrastinating as I have lots of chores I could go do. So let me show you a few fun things starting with a tag for Tag Tuesday.

I was a bit upset my quote got a little shaky on the right, but I liked the rest of it enough to leave it.

The latest challenge is a tic-tac-toe set up.

I stamped part of an image from one of Lynne Perrella's new ancient Egypt set which I just had to buy myself. I do love her art and am always excited when she puts out some rubber stamps. Then I added a button and this little die cut bunny which I ended up not using on another page.

And then I have this fun retro science page that I recently made. Many of the stickers came on a freebie sheet from Google that was laying around the science copy room at school and that no one seemed to want. After several days of seeing them (and worried they would end up in the recycling trash)  I grabbed them with a robot page in mind. I had these robot stickers in my stash and was glad to finally have a reason to use them, because I think they are pretty fun.

And I read on Divers and Sundry's blog that today is National Evolution Day so I thought this page might be appropriate with all the talk on artificial intelligence. Maybe even if you are a fan of the old Jetson's cartoon or Lost in Space you might even think of these guys are friends or family, so I am going to link up to Try It On Tuesday and their friends and family challenge. 

My background is a piece of printed paper that I Gelli printed on, and then everything else is stickers or some sticky tape except the little silver stars which I glued on. 

I am also linking up to Art Journal Journey and my vintage or modern theme which runs through the end of the month. (Wow, November is flying-only 1 week left). And I am also linking up to AEDM.

And yesterday we had successful shopping. We got the dogs their treats (they are much happier this morning), my daughter her vacuum, and even found this dog bed on sale for our dog Pete who used to love his dog bed until Maddie decided a few years back it was just a big toy to attack and shred.

And when we brought the bed home to Pete, he took a sniff and walked away but the bed shredder Maddie took a look at it and must of had some second thoughts about shredding dog beds

The hubby and I were watching a netflix film last night and she went on the bed, snuggled up and fell asleep.

And I will leave you with this funny photo from yesterday's shopping.

You could buy this hat for your snowmen, but we thought it was funny just to borrow it for a few minutes.

Woman in Red

Hi everyone. 

Today I have a journal spread for Try It on Tuesday and their new challenge called Woman in Red. My lady is a Dina Wakely stamped image on red paper which I then added to this painted collage background .I actually cut my page down to get rid of all the white edges and then I mounted it onto this inked background. I thought my piece really needed the frame-and it made the perfect area to stamp my phrase.

So yesterday's blizzard went out to sea, and as far as I can tell you got somewhere around 18 inches or 46 centimeters of new snow.  We did have bare ground most places before this storm, but now we are white again.

Oh joy-not.

How about a little distraction from snow chatter?

Here are some photos I took when I went to New Mexico a couple of weeks ago.

 If I had a fence made of adobe I would want a yellow gate like this.

 I love how there are older neighborhoods in Santa Fe that have  gravel roads still. I think it would be interesting to live in a beautiful neighborhood like this one.

 And how a pretty garden set and a formal western style garden like this one.

 And here's a little rust for Elizabeth. :)

 It was a bit chilly to sit outside, but this place is ready for a nice day.

This is a water gate along a little canal that runs through an older residential neighborhood. I think its from back in the day when people got their water from  this canal.
