A Little More Autumn.

Hi there everyone.

Happy Friday. And happy  midway through the month. (Already. Holy cow.) That means I'm sharing for day 15 of  Art Every Day Month. 

Today my journal page has an autumn theme.

It's a bit of paint, paper, some stickers, a couple of found relatives and some hand made dimensional bits. 

I won't be around at AEDM tomorrow and possibly Sunday. We're doing another hockey weekend; this time heading north to my actual alma mater. This  is one of our newest family traditions. It's  the battle of the border war schools, Maine and New Hampshire, these 2 rival schools playing, and the rival  school is where my daughter and her beau went to school, so we're having a little family get away.

What To Do With a Cloth Page

Happy Sunday everyone.

Today is day 10 of Art Every Day Challenge.  Hope those of you playing along are having as much fun as I am over at Art Every Day Month.

Those of you who have ever seen or used a Dina Wakely journal know that there are cloth pages in them.  Sometimes the cloth is a little intimidating (for me) to use, so on this page I tried rubbing some ink pads on it to see what would happen. I must say I like the final effect! I'm keeping that one in my repertoire. 

Then I added some cut out photo booth faces that I cut out from a notecard. I also added a bit of ric rac trim, some tissue paper, a vintage slide some who knows what, as well as a sticker and stamped quote.

Just a Touch of Yellow

 Happy weekend!  Hope everyone has some fun plans for the weekend. 

Today I have another burlap background page to share for Rike's Yellow challenge at Art Journal Journey. 

It only has a bit of yellow but it does have some.

The burlap is a page in my journal. I used a transparency as my base to work on. I added lots ot TH art bits, stamped a quote, and the colored and added a vintage lady cut out that came from a set I picked up on Etsy.

It was a pretty quick and easy page to put together as the only wet media I used was a bit of glue and some yellow paint as the center on the black die cut flower. But it worked on the burlap page and it's fun to switch it up every now and again.

My husband and I are heading out for a few days later this weekend. I have a pre-post for T day. Otherwise I will see next weekend  with hopefully some good photos and stories to share.

Vintage for Valentine's Day

Happy Wednesday everyone  A short post today since I have a partial tricky ride to work this morning. The schools around my house are cancelled for the day due to snow and ice, and  then as I drive towards work I'll move into ice and finally rain. Another one of these weird winter storms, and me working at the coast and living inland means I get to drive through it all as school is not cancelled nor even delayed. This has been the story all this winter, and I can say I am just plain tired of it!

Thanks for reading through my complaints. Getting it off my chest and I feel better already. Smile.

Vintage Romance

Happy Friday! The week is winding down and the weekend is almost here. It's been a crazy weather week, spring like, then cold enough for a little snow and ice, warm again for rain, and this weekend the cold returns. 

Sounds like it will be a good weekend for some art and reading, and who knows what else.

Since Valentine's Day is coming up in less than a week, I thought I would share this romantic page from my vintage journal. I actually reworked this spread as I didn't like the left side at all, but now I am happy with the results. So a page that wasn't originally meant to be so romantic ended up being just that.

It takes me forever to finish up one of these vintage pages. I think it is because it is not a style that comes naturally to me, but it is good to push yourself to try something different.  So I do a little bit, and then put it aside and do a little bit more. Eventually I get it finished.

The background of this page is some brown paper bag, some Washi tape, some gold and white spray ink, some gold paint as well as some black ink that was rubbed on.

Then I added a bit of TH vintage portrait paper, some red heart doilies, a die cut hinge, lock and key, some die cut hearts, a few metal crafting screw heads, some stamped quotes and 2 stamped and fussy cut people from B Line Designs.

Romance

Happy February everyone.  A new month is here as well as the weekend. There's a lot going on this weekend as it's the big rivalry hockey weekend between the university my husband and I attended and the state university here where we live and where my daughter and her beau went to school.  I'll share more about those games on T Day, but today I want to share some romantic art with you.

Funny how last year I had no interest in making Valentine or heart art, but this year I am all into hearts and love art.

Here's a page in my vintage journal, one of the current theme journals I am working in. I went really romantic old scrapbook page with this one.

I began by covering the page with an old sheet of music, which I then darkened. I added the red paper doily heart. I covered parts of the heart with some glue and then covered the heart with some red flocking powder that I had. Once I dried I brushed off the excess. It took a couple of times to get it just the way I wanted it to be. I wanted it to look old and as if a lot of the flocking had been rubbed and worn away. Next I glued down a vintage romantic image that reminded me of a Victorian Valentine (did they send Valentine's then?), as well as a die cut image and some button paper tape. I inked some white lace and some white mini ribbon bows, as well as some pink and red mini heart buttons to complete the bottom of the page.

It is also the second of the month which means it is time for Second on the Second over at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog.  It is time to link up  a previous post for a second viewing.

Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend. It's still cold here but it slowly warming up bit by bit. But by Monday they are saying we are going to be in a winter heatwave. This weather is really strange, that's all I can say.

Vintage Again Today

Hi everyone. Today is my mid-semester workday at school so I have no kids in class. I have a load of things to do to switch over to new classes which start up tomorrow so it will be a busy day. But wow, that means it is second half of the school year!

And today our temperatures will be almost 40 degrees (Fahrenheit) warmer than they were Monday so that is a very good thing. We should be up near freezing (32 degree F or 0 degree C). It' still chilly this morning but at least it's not windy and brutally cold.

So I guess this Wednesday is starting off pretty good.

Last weekend I had lots of art time as it was too cold to leave the house. My work table is in the coldest room in the house (we don't heat the upstairs) and I had to run my electric heater to work, but even so, I still managed to make a few things and start a few more things.  One journal I was working on quite a bit was my newest vintage journal.  Here's a page.

I love this vintage horse and dog piece, and that TH gentleman looks like he belong with the horse.  The lace printed paper looks good with the overall brown color of the page. I added some silver tape (which I rubbed some brown ink on to make it look a little older) as well as some embellishments. A few of these were gifted to me by Astrid. They work really well on this page so thanks! I turned the top round piece into a abstract award as it reminded me of an unusual red ribbon trophy, and then I stamped the quote.

Vintage

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. It is Saturday evening and our big snow/ice event has begun.

 OK, that is not a very impressive photo is it? But you can see there's a few flakes coming down and we have a dusting.

By the time I get up in the morning there is suppose to be a lot more. They say it is going to really get going sometimes between 10PM and the wee hours of the morning. The cupboards and refrigerator are full,  the woodstove is already on to get rid of the chill in the house and I'm in my comfy pjs which I plan on being the outfit for the weekend. (Well maybe not this pair for the whole rest of the weekend. Smile.)

I started a new  journal so I can play with some vintage style pages. Here's the first version of the cover. 

 I decided I wanted to try something new so I used my finger to rub a bit of liquid glue onto spots and then added some gold leaf. Instead of really loading on the glue I kept glueing in little spots so that I would get bits of gold. I wanted it to look like it had been well loved for many years.

But of course once you add something shiny you get those photo reflections like at the top of the page.  The bottom of the page shows you much more clearly what it looks like. The top looks a little blobby.

And in the time it took me to write this post, I noticed the snow had gotten heavier. (Most of the snow you see is out by the garden is the old crusty stuff we have had on the ground for awhile now.)
