On the Island

Oh, the long weekend is over-sad face on me! Back to work-really sad face on me! But it was an excellent weekend! I felt like I did spent too much time working on getting my living room back together (now that the never ending ceiling project is mostly finished), and I got a little annoyed that I was wasting my long weekend doing that, but I am glad to get that done and get the furniture back into place.
One thing we did do this weekend was go out in the boat on Saturday. It was a beautiful day and we cruised back out to the Isle of Shoals, a group of islands that are 6 miles off the shore. I had been out there last weekend and showed you some photos of the big old hotel on one of the islands, Star Island, in this post. But this time we actually went ashore on Star Island, a first for me, and one of those things on my bucket list of places I wanted to visit.
Thought I would show you a few photos from the island today.
This is one of photos from last week's post when the Great Gatsby party was going on. I wanted to show you to explain that this is the big  hotel on this little island. It was built in the late 1800's and has hardly been changed very much at all. The hotel rooms are bare bones-even the beds are nothing more than a wood frame with a mattress in them. (I know that because we peaked into one where the door was open). Guests (usually there on retreats or for classes) share bathrooms in the hall and there are no televisions or computers or anything like that.
On the rest of the island are lots of small buildings, and they are all part of Unitarian Church. Now onto my photos from Saturday.
More white building nestled into the rocks.
 One building was named here.
And another named there.

Last fall they installed solar panels among the old buildings.
And look at these cute little stone cottages.
The ferry arrives and picks up those leaving.
Can you imaging sitting on one of these rocking chairs on the hotel porch, in the late afternoon, with this pretty view? I can image that, with a good book in my lap, though I might be more interested in the view other than the book.
And a couple more views of life on the island.
I think  this is where some of the hotel staff spend there summers.
Lots of linens  flapping in the wind.
And I can't forget the ocean views, can I?
And I shouldn't forget the island church.
There's even an obelisk on the island.
It felt like a world far away, and I enjoyed my visit. I have a few more views left to show you but I'll save those for another day.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Wonderful photos, what a great place to visit - a bit like a trip to yesterday. I love visiting islands, they always have something very special about them. Glad you enjoyed your loooong weekend! Hugs, Valerie

Thanks for the tour. Haven't been in forever. I forgot all those stone buildings, but of course what would you build with out there that you didn't have to haul in, or did they? xox

Hello Erika,

This is pure idyll for me.
A nice day.
