Jemima

Hi everyone. I can't believe it is Friday. I've had a very quiet week but it still flew right by. I've had lots of art time, a small house project and some lazy summer afternoons with a book on my hammock. What a great week. :)
So I have another page for Art Journal Journey. Jo is this month's hostess and her theme is Poetry in Motion. I used another poem from my children's anthology as inspiration for another page.
I was inspired by this children's poem called Jemima.  In my book the author is anonymous.

THERE was a little girl,
And she had a little curl
Right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good
She was very, very good,        5
And when she was bad she was horrid.

One day she went upstairs,
When her parents, unawares,
In the kitchen were occupied with meals,
And she stood upon her head        10
In her little trundle-bed,
And then began hooraying with her heels.

Her mother heard the noise,
And she thought it was the boys
A-playing at a combat in the attic;        15
But when she climbed the stair,
And found Jemima there,
She took and she did spank her most emphatic.

The first stanza of this poem has a lot of meaning to me. Since I happen to have a curl right in the middle of my forehead too. My mother would often quote those first 6 lines to me. I can't imagine I was ever horrid though. :)
So instead of making a page to illustrate the poem, I used the poem as inspiration for my page.
Jemima is all grown up now, and she's not jumping on her bed either. Instead I had her thinking very good and also horrid thoughts. Well, G rated horrid, nothing too bad.
We had some terrible storms the other night and it really eroded away my driveway and road. I live on a gravel road that isn't paved (and my driveway is the same way).

And a couple of trees came down too.
 Luckily they weren't too big.
And there was lots of road debris too.
Just thought I'd share some of our little weather adventure.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Your page is AMAZING - I love it!
Oh gosh that looks really horrible - what a storm!
I hope the summer is nice to us all now and no more weather disasters to come.
Thanks a lot for such a lovely page - you come up with the most lovely ideas Erika!

What a cute and adorable journal page.

Your storms were horrible. I was watching and worried about you. I had no idea you had so much damage. The road grader will be along in about a month or so to grade the road (grin), but your drive is a different story. Hope you have a way to grade it yourself.

Sorry about all the damage on your road and driveway, looks bad! Love your fun page, what a hoot with the naughty girl. I had that verse quoted at me a lot when I was small, too! I didn't have a curl but a cowlick sticking up in front, and if I don't put gel on it every day it still does the same! Enjoy your weekend, hugs, Valerie

I never knew the little girl with a curl nursery rhyme was part of a larger poem. Enjoyed your page of jemima all grown up. Love the yell a the kids for no reason bubble. Been there. Done that.

We had some wild weather here, too, but not as bad in my area.

I remember this poem, my mum use to use the first 6 lines too, do you think all mum's do? ... lol 😉. Thanks for sharing the full poem, I have never heard the last two verses before and it was fun to read them. Your poem inspired page is wonderful, I love all the good and naughty thoughts, I like the diamonds and no housework especially - does that mean I'm naughty ...lol 😉. Wow, the storms really did some damage, you had quite the weather adventure! Thanks for the happy memories and for making me smile with your Art Journal Journey page today! Wishing you a Happy Friday and Weekend! J 😊

Oh this really made me smile Erika and I love your artwork. I knew the first verse from my childhood too but never realised there was more to it - so thank you for that.
Your weather sounds a bit like here at present with heavy rain and winds on and off for about 3 weeks now.
Have a great weekend.. Gill xx

I know the first stanza of that poem (and heard it often as a child with my curly hair) but didn't realize there was more to it.

Your storm damage is a shame :( It takes some doing to clear up after that kind of wind and rain.

I love that poem! As you might imagine, I was a little girl with a little curl right in the middle of her forehead. And when I was good, I was very, very good. But when I was bad it was sort of wimpy...

I love the page you created for the poem. I had curly hair when I was small and my Gran used to say the same rhyme to me.
The storm must have been awful to create such large cracks in the road. I hope it has all passed over and it will be better for the weekend.

You bring back memories with the poem. I knew the first verse very well but not the other two, so that was fun to find out the ending.
Your painted Gemima looks rather sweet with great thoughts, "Kiss my teenagers" and "Go on vacation alone" for example. She looks like a great personality, you've painted her brilliantly and I can just imagine there is a whole storybook about her.
