Hi everyone. I am here today with a page for Elle's Language challenge at Art Journal Journey and also for this months's More Mixed Media challenge that is anything goes with optional pink.
My page today is all about the language of science. Science has lots of words to describe phenomena and characteristics. Some of these words have made it into mainstream language, and some of them haven't. I guess you could say like many other areas of expertise and professions, science has its own jargon.
jargon: special words or expressions that are used by a particular profession or group and are difficult for others to understand
I think many words in my science specialty (biology) are easy to work out if you know the meaning of the roots in the word. I always taught kids that way, hoping they could use that tool throughout their lives to figure things out. Even if they don't remember that it was their biology teacher who taught them that- smile.
My page today started with a Gelli-printed background that I then stamped with some sciencey images. I had the black tag which was stenciled with white paint, and I added that. I also stamped the tag with the same image as the background.
The hearts were cut out of a magazine page, and the cool science lady was stamped on acetate. I then painted the opposite of the acetate, and once that dried, I sanded it a bit. The purple "flowery" things are actually atomic electron configuration models. They were a cool stamp image in the same set as the science lady. I stamped, colored and fussy cut those out of plain white paper.
I used a scrap part of a tag stamped with letters to form the word science, some label tape as well as some foam letters to finish off my page.
That's my page. Have a wonderful day, and and as always, I appreciate you stopping by.

You've made a very clever page this time, with lots of symbols and jargon, great idea. Love he beautiful colours, too. And thanks for joining us at More Mixed Media, too - much appreciated! Have a great day, I'm off for a walk now. Hugs, Valerie
And did you see? You're in the top five for your last entry at MMM
Good morning, I love your journal page-and a perfect way to interpret the theme of languages as that had me stumped happy mid week Kathy
A very cool science jargon art journal page! Science has mostly been a foreign language for me. But I always think how awesome it looks when I see it written out with numbers and letters and symbols. I love the colors on your page and the way you have designed it with all the usual numbers and letters and symbols.
What a great page Erika, I love the science stamps and the science lady and the purple flowery things (atomic electron configuration models). I was hoping someone might do a jargon page in a specialist subject so it makes me happy. Thanks for joining me for the Language theme at Art Journal Journey this month Elle xx
Science is a language we would do well to be conversant with. I love your shapes!
Science has its own jargon and I love that you pointed that out. Different areas of science can be quite strange unless you are familiar with them. For example, chemestry is still hard for me, even though I had two semesters of it. I really love your page, and I love the mixed media aspect of it, too. Thanks for yet another incredible entry for art Journal Journey using Elle's theme.
The French alphabet postcard heart and the alphabet letters are perfect for calligraphers especially the last line of special characters when you make a mistake lettering certificates or envelopes. 😺 I hope you're enjoying the weather.
Science jargon was a great idea to use for your journal page, it is very interesting what you write about it from your life.
The background is fabulous and so are the hearts and around the face.
A successful, very nice page, hug Elke
Love your page - the letters remind me of "such a small machine" my Dad had to label boxes for sale :-)
Great composition again, and colors!
Great how you taught kids and yes. I´m IT and my Brother often rolls eyes cause I use words in normal language as it is normal for me but not for him ;-)
"Who talks like that?! What do you mean?!" and only then I realize as the people I´m normally with speak the same.
Language, some funny thing! Some loveable thing, you pointed it out very well.
Beautiful blog
I love the composition on this -- all the elements really work together, as though there would be no other way to use them. And of course, I love the colors!
Wow! This is stunning Erika! xx
Wow! This has inspired me to get some old stamps out as soon as I can! I love this Erika -those colours are beautiful. Hugs, Chrisx
How lucky were the kids in your classroom to have you for a teacher - you thought outside the box! I think you might be surprised at how some of them will remember the life lesson learned from you.
Love the colours you chose to illustrate your page with - the pink and purple work so well together.
Hugs, Neet xx
A fantastic page Erika, I love how you chose jargon as your starting point, there is so many super things to look at on your page.
