T Stands for Catching Up Gardens, Bees, Birds and Other Things

HI everyone. I hope everyone is having a   great start to the new week and also to this new month. Since it's Monday evening, it's time for T Stands for Tuesday post over at Bleubeard's and Elizabeth's blog.

Last week was a very busy week for me. Somethings on the agenda  were more interesting than others, and one item I can check off my list is that I planted some flowers and also  all my veggies in my new vegetable beds.

The bed on the left has various tomatoes and the bed on the right has some pepper plants on one end and on the end that looks empty has some bean seeds which haven't sprouted yet.

Because of the cold and wet weather that we had when my second box of honey bees arrived, the queen ended up not surviving. I called the company, and they sent me a new queen who arrived last week. She came in the little box you see in this photo. I put the box in the hive for a day just so the bees could adjust to the new queen and also so I could be sure she wasn't being attacked and killed.  I'm trying to salvage the hive that arrived in the cold wet weather because I lost more bees than I wanted from the weather. And the hive  must have a queen. So far, so good with the new queen.

I shared a photo of one baby bluebird last T day, and since then I've seen 2 more babies from the nest to make a total of 3. You can see two on the feeder pole and the other one (who of course had to sit someplace else) in the second photo.

One day last week  I also shared how my screen porch was ready to be cleaned and set up. I decided before that happened I would repaint the floor. The previous time I painted it ( 2 or 3 years ago) I bought flat outdoor porch paint which was a  mistake. It didn't hold up well at all. I figured  while I was on a project role I might as well paint it (because I know once I set it up I wouldn't get around to it); this time with some gloss paint. I didn't change the color, because I'm still loving it.  It's not  quite done yet, but should be by mid-week-I hope.

Look at the cool view on this gazing ball. I visited a friend's house one afternoon and before we went inside for a cup of tea and some homemade chocolate chip cookies 😋, we took a stroll through her gardens.

Speaking of tea, here's my drink for this week's T day. Sunday morning the hubby and I went to our favorite hole in  the wall breakfast place. Lately we only go when we get up and get out super early as it's not a big place and unless you go before 7 AM, there's a wait. This week we arrived just after 6 AM and were able to get a table right away.

They don't have a fancy tea selection (just Lipton) but they do give you a little pot that hold enough for about 2 more fill ups.

That's all for me. Wishing you a happy T day and start to the new week.

Glad they sent you a new queen. What happens to the hive if they didn't send you a new one? What happens in the wild when a queen dies?

I am not surprised that outdoor porch paint didn't last...wasn't that supposed for the outdoor? Your garden looks really impressive.

Did you hear the "noooooooo" from here upon the dead Queen?
And to imagine the new one maybe afraid in that box....
Looking at your porch-floor is like looking at my wall, same color!
Cute cuppa! Have a happy T-Day and a great week, hugs

Your vegetable garden looks neat and very well organized. I hope that you will have a bumper crop to reward your efforts. It is nothing short of wonderful to see those baby bluebirds making their start in life. Perhaps their parents will have a second brood. Good luck with getting the new Queen established in the hive. Bee-keeping is not for the faint of heart, is it? All the best - David

It sounds like you’ve had a full and rewarding week, balancing gardening, bee care, and even porch projects. I admire your patience and dedication, especially with the new queen bee—nature certainly keeps us on our toes. And that early breakfast spot sounds like a perfect way to start the day, simple and satisfying. Wishing you continued success with all your projects. www.melodyjacob.com

I've been watching your garden grow! Great pictures...we always had beans and tomatoes in tubs but with it now just being me, I haven't had time...the weeds are growing too fast! My dad was a bee keeper and he had hives on the farm where we lived and one in the garden. One day he had to go and collect a swarm of bees and bring them home in a wicker tub with just a sack covering it! I was about 7 and that was a very scarrrry drive home...the bees were buzzing like mad once they started to 'wake up' (He used a smoker on them so they started off 'beeing' very calm. Happy T day Day ((Lyn))

Wow -- the bees seem to be very curious about the new queen. I hope they all make it -- you've had a rough go of it for a couple of years. Love your green floor -- that's a gorgeous color! And I had no idea bluebird babies weren't blue!

Good to hear the hive is doing well with their new queen. The bluebird babies are so cute. I like the color of your porch floor. The colors in the gazing ball remind me of the Aurora. Did you get to see it Sunday or Monday night? With this nice weather you'll be able to get outdoor stuff done. I hope the porch floor dries before the humidity sets in. happy T Day

I particularly love the photo of the birds on the feeder pole. Your garden looks great! I like the beds--the shape and the sides. That's a lovely color for the floor--very calming. Hoping your bees and crops do well!

Your update is a wonderful mix of everyday life and nature’s little surprises. Planting your veggies and tending to the bees shows real dedication it’s encouraging to hear the new queen is settling in well. The baby bluebirds and the freshly painted porch add a warm, homely touch that many of us can relate to. Those quiet moments, like sharing tea after a morning stroll, really capture the simple joys. Thanks for sharing such a grounded, genuine glimpse into your week. www.melodyjacob.com

I am quite impressed with your raised beds. I think you will have a bumper crop this year. My herbs are drowning. They like heat, sun, and no rain. If they live I'll be both happy and surprised.

I'm glad you have a good rapport with your bee supplier. So sorry to read you have lost so many due to the weather.

Looks like your floor will last awhile now. I used high gloss paint when I redid my kitchen and basement studio. It should last and cleans up well, too.

What an amazing gazing ball. I have a friend who made one from a bowling ball and special paint.

I like the photo of your tea and teapot. Those hole in the wall diners are the BEST. Thanks for sharing your week and tea with us for T this Tuesday.

How beautiful the flowerbeds look now. You've been busy, and your legs are buzzing, and the birds have something to eat. The painted terrace looks so lovely, and the ball on the pillar. Summer can certainly come now! Hugs Elke

You must be satisfied now: Veg planted, porch painted, new queen bee seems to be doing ok. What's next?
That breakfast place looks fun. I think you have shown us photos of there before. Out at 6 a.m.? That is very early. (to me: middle of the night!)
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

I am sorry to hear your Queen died - would that have meant the bees would have stayed or left the hive? Not to worry though as now you have a new Queen, I hope she is accepted and everything goes to plan.
That blue ball at your friend's is gorgeous, what a myriad of colours if produces.
The baby bluebirds are gorgeous but now I am feeling sorry for the one sitting alone. Hope the other two are not bullies.
Love the porch floor, great choice of colour, brings the outside in more than ever.
Hugs, Neet xx

I'm still loving the green floor shade too. As Rosanne Rosannadanna might say, if it's not one thing it's another with those bees! I sure hope they thrive for you now. Gorgeous garden, enjoy! xoxo
