Hi everyone. Happy new week to you, and if you're stopping by from Bleubeard's and Elizabeth's blog, here's my T day post.
Sorry if you don't like emojis, but this post needed something as it seemed to have too much writing so I decided to have some fun and add them. Grin.
A couple of years ago the freezer part of our kitchen refrigerator stopped working. 😞 It still was cold, but didn't get cold enough to freeze. My husband tried to fix it, (and he's usually great at fixing appliances- he's fixed my clothes dryer 3 times already)), but he couldn't fix this problem. 😕 We could have called in a repair person, but we figured the price that would cost could be a good chunk of money towards a new refrigerator. And our frig at that point was 13 years old.
Let me also explain that we have a second refrigerator in our basement that has a working freezer. When our basement deep freezer died back in 2020 during the pandemic, we decided to replace it with a second refrigerator. Since we had this freezer/refrigerator, we didn't need to rush for a kitchen refrigerator with a freezer.
You might ask why we didn't just move the basement refrigerator upstairs. Well, although we bought that refrigerator new, it's pretty ugly plus it had/has some scars and bumps on it. It works great in the basement, and so we've been using that freezer exclusively for the last couple of years.
However, there were 2 things that were tough without a freezer in the kitchen. One was having ice 🧊and the other was ice cream 🍦. Not that it was difficult to walk down into the basement to get or bring the ice cream back to the freezer, but if you put a scoop or 2 into a bowl. by the time you walked down, put the ice cream in the freezer and then back up your ice cream would have started to melt. (Oh such first world problems 😉)
Since it's summer again, since last summer we didn't have an upstairs freezer, and since it's the time you really want ice and ice cream, it was time to buy a new frig.
We found a new frig at one of those big box hardware stores during their Memorial Day sale, so bye-bye to our old frig which is in the photo below. I was sad to see it go as I actually really liked it.

...ice is a wonderful thing.
A new fridge is fun!
How many people live in the house and use the fridge for all their daily needs? Do you have enough space for normal needs? I ask because when my children moved out, I thought that would be the end of food storage problems.. but it wasn't.
That's a HUGE frig. Mine is half of the size.
Perfect fridge,
I hope it gets filled and emptied many times this summer with ice cream!!
A nice refrigerator. Mine looks like that too, but only half the size. I think it's great that you have ice cubes and ice cream ready right now.! 👍 Good week!
hugs Elke
Wow, that was a beautiful frig!
A lot of tape indeed! And lucky you, we need no ice, hot tea, rather.
With that, a happy T-Day to you, icy hugs? 😍
Enjoy ice and ice cream! Summer will be better with them — at least that’s my wish for you.
We are two people in this house. We have two refrigerators with freezer compartments and a chest freezer in addition. Somehow we manage to fill them all. It’s nuts! All the best - David
Now you are all set for the summer weather, when it finally arrives in NH, Erika.
Nice new fridge Erika, my fridge was 19 years old when I replaced it 18 months ago, it had a similar amount of blue tape lol, but it's about half the size of yours. It also doesn't have an ice maker because I don't like ice in drinks - it's cold enough here without making it colder right haha. It's funny what a difference having a fridge in the kitchen makes though because my previous fridge was in the utility room and life is so much easier now the new fridge is in the kitchen! Happy T Day!
Hi again, thanks for your visit, to answer your question about the heads, all the cat heads are cut from the cat food packaging. I save them all before I put the boxes in the recycling. :)
Aren't Memorial Day sales great? I can't believe it's been a year since I got my new one. I had a side by side when I moved to Wichita, but it quit working while I was interning in Omaha. My friend Joseph bought a cheap used one since he was living at the house at the time. It lasted 20 years, so I can't complain. However I wanted one with a freezer on the bottom. It didn't occur to me I couldn't reach the top two shelves without standing on a stool! You did great and it's an awesome story for T this Tuesday, dear Erika. Love the ice pebbles.
Hooray for ice and ice cream at your fingertips. Just in time for the warm weather predicted for Wed. and Thurs. I agree with your daughter, the new fridge doesn't look much different from the old. Here's to many happy years of ice and ice cream on demand. 🧊🧊🧊🍨🍧🍦Happy T Day
Congratulations on your new fridge! It's a beauty! In Europe most fridges are 'single', or upright fridge-freezers with the freezer on top or underneath the fridge. So yours, being double (fridge and freezer next to each other) is what we call an American fridge-freezer.
I looked at those as I think they are mighty smart, but decided it was too small for me. I now have a huge single fridge in the kitchen (about 6 ft tall) and a separate upright freezer in the pantry behind the kitchen. I have an extra fridge (the beer fridge) in the cave just outside my apartment door. That fridge also has a large freezer compartment. Being in a warm country, I need a big fridge and more than half the content is drinks.
The only thing I would love to have is an ice maker in or on the fridge. I still use ice cube trays or special plastic bags I fill with water. I like ice in my drinks especially my G&Ts.
Enjoy your new fridge/freezer.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
That's an absolute beauty! I've been eyeing fridges. I'd like a new one but since I'll only be here a few more years, have hesitated. Of course, if I get it the right size, I could move it to Rick's. And maybe I will. Well, after I pay for the cottage mess!
You will definitely enjoy ice and ice cream this summer with this new fridge. Our fridge is more than 30 years old and so far is working fine - I hope it stays like that. We don't put ice in our drinks, we simply don't like it. Ice cream, on the other hand, is quite popular in this house as well. Happy T day, hugs - Carola
Yes, I can't live without that ice! LOL We have a deep freezer in our basement, but then we have another fridge in the garage because it's makes life easier that way! Always fun to have a new fridge! I don't like my new one either! Maybe in another year or two I'll get another one I like better.
