Time for a New Try It on Tuesday Challenge

Hi everyone. Happy Tuesday. The last 2 weeks flew by, and it's already time for a new challenge at Try It on Tuesday.

Let me first thank everyone who joined our Make It Magical challenge. I also want to thank Lorraine of Lorraine's Loft who hosted that challenge. ❤

For the next 2 weeks our challenge is:   SPARKLE ALL THE WAY

I hope you can make out the glitter on all the snow! Here's a slightly different adjustment of my photo that might help.

I'm not sure how much better this view is either, but I did add a lot of glitter glue to the snow.

This page is in my small journal, and it started with a spring page that I really disliked. It's amazing what some blue paint can do. I then added a fussy cut evergreen tree (that I cut from a sheet of paper) as well as punch out bare winter deciduous tree. I added some white paint snow. Then I added some punch out birds as well as a chipboard owl. The punch-out birds weren't  changed any way except for the top bird in the evergreen where I highlighted the eye area with white (so it would stand out better).

The chipboard owl was colored with Sharpies and some other markers. I also used a white pen on it.  I added a lot of white glitter glue to the snow. I also used a very old Penny Black snow word stamp for the words on the background. The stamp was too large to stamp completely, so I just stamped the edges (as an after thought) over the sky.  Finally I used 2 very old Cheery Lynn dies to make the words winter and day.

I am also linking my page up Creative Artsite Mixed Media challenge blog #110#.

Glitter isn't the only way to add some sparkle to your creation. Be sure to check out the other designer's pieces too.  And as you probably know, our TIOT runs for the next 2 weeks and we accept all types of art.

I hope you have some sparkle in your life and decide to join this challenge.

Alice Is Smitten with Emory

 Hi everyone.

I haven't posted anything new for Bleubeard's and Elizabeth's theme at Art Journal Journey since day 1, so it is time to change that. Today I have a journal page where I recycled a magazine page, reused some metal stickers and also used a die cut paper scrap rather than throwing it out.

I started by recycling this red sheet of paper with all the hearts cut out of it. Back in February when I was hosting at AJJ, I die cut lots of hearts on a half sheet of red cardstock. I saved the left over sheet rather than throwing it away. To use it for this page, I took half a sheet of colored paper that came out of the inside of an old Somerset Studio magazine and layered it underneath the red hearts. The 2 papers worked well together but looked a little flat, so I used white thread and a zigzag stitch and sewed it down onto a piece of white watercolor paper.

I used some fancy scissors to cut around the border of a TH photo and added that. I had these 3 metal letters in my stash, and I thought they looked good so I added them. The a, s and e don't really mean anything (although almost all enzyme names end in ase), but they were just what I had. In fact they all had been used in some other project at some time in the past,  and I had to peel some left over stuck paper off the back of them. I guess I could say that they stand for Alice is smitten with Emory, which is what I named the 2 people in the photo. Finally I added the butterfly sticker and the quote.

That's my new art for today.

I am also linking up to  Rain's Art and Dinner Date.  Her theme is folklore this week, and here's a couple of art journal pages I made last autumn that would work for that theme.

That's all for me. Have a wonderful rest of your week and weekend ahead.

Halloween

Hi everyone.

Two weeks have flown by, and it is once again time for a new challenge at Try It on Tuesday  This time you can get your spooky or playfulness on because our challenge is HALLOWEEN.

I went for playful Halloween.

I titled this page, The Teenage Girls Are Out Trick or Treating. These girls definitely have the ghosts in their neighborhood confused.

I sprayed my page with some Dina Wakely spray paints. Once dry. I stamped and modified these 3 fun ladies from Funky Fossil. They really reminded me of teenagers once I modified them. I know teenagers are rather old to trick or treat, but these 3 are going anyhow, dressed up in the best witches costumes. Yet because they are teenagers, and all into fashion, they are not traditional at all.  They do think think they are witches though. Smile. They even dressed up on of the girl's dogs. Smile.

That has the neighborhood ghosts confused. Those ghosts were stamped, fussy cut and then treated with a bit of coloring and sparkle glitter glue.

Be sure to check out all the art from the design team. There are some more fun Halloween pieces.

And remember, our challenges at Try It On Tuesday run for 2 weeks, and all kinds of art are accepted.

I hope to see you there.

I am also linking up to Tracey's My Favorite Color is October at Art Journal Journey. That challenge runs for the whole month of October but is limited to art journaling in any form.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. It is always appreciated.

Make it Feminine

 Hi everyone.  Happy Tuesday.

The last two weeks have flown by, and today we are starting a new challenge at Try It On Tuesday. For the next 2 weeks, our theme is Make It Feminine

The centerpiece of my slightly grungy  page is this beautiful chipboard woman from Stamperia. I added some glitter glue to her dress to help give it some depth. I also added the tissue paper lace and flowers because they are often considered feminine.

I used lots of paint  colors and some tissue paper layering to create my background. I also added some stamping on my page.  To give the lovely lady on my page more focus I add I added a strip of white metallic paper trim and a paper metallic sun also.  I kept the dark printed tissue paper below the sun, as if all the light is going onto the beautiful lady.

Be sure to check out all the lovely art by the design team too for some inspiration.   I'm looking forward to to seeing everyone's feminine art.

I am also linking up my journal page over at  Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge.  Their theme is anything goes as long as you use multiple medias on your challenge page.

And lastly I am linking up to Art Journal Journey where this month's theme is Language, hosted by Elle. My page today is all about the language of ladies, from how we dress and what we surround ourselves with. Even though women can do just about anything, and even though people are people, women do have some of their own body language and customs.

Thanks for visiting.

Memories of Japan

Hi everyone.
I want to share another page for Valerie's Heavy Metal challenge at Art Journal Journey This page once again  has a Japanese theme. My inspiration came from the scraps of the deep purple paper  I used on my page. They reminded me of purple silk kimono fabric.

I used a stencil and some gold paint to create the interesting marks on the background. I am not sure they are Japanese writing or just fascinating marks. They do look Japanese/Asian however.
I also used some metallic Sharpies to color in parts of the kimono.  I added a little more metal also. I  had this brass charm that I painted with some gold paint before I stitched it onto the page.

I've been looking through travel photo books and my various trip journals a lot lately. This cold wintery weather and the fact that it's been a year since I've ventured far has me feeling a little bit restless to go someplace.
I probably wouldn't be wanting to go away as much if I actually could go someplace, but since I'm not able to go away, I want to go someplace. I think I have something that  should be called covid related vacation sickness. Smile.

Let me share a few more random photos from when I traveled to Japan with my school in 2018. A little more arm chair traveling to compensate for no real travel.

The bamboo forest, Kyoto

Lighthouse view, from south of Nichinan

Sign in park on hilltop, Nichinan. And also on that hilltop, a vending machine. The Japanese love their  vending machines, and we found them in so many unexpected places.

Crayons, Ink and Paint

Hi everyone.  Happy Friday!

I've been slowly making my way through the Creative Jumpstart classes. I've watch  more videos than I have created art for, and I've learned quite a bit. I really like how everyday there is a new artist with an approximate 10 minute video. Everyday is a lot to keep up with for me, but I'm working at my own pace and time schedule. No stress, no pressure.

Today's art is from Day 5, and  guest artist Birgit Koopsen's class was called the Distance is Only Physical.
This page began by writing with a crayon on some watercolor paper, and then brushing on some Distress Inks from the refill bottles  (over the crayon marks). Although I remember learning about doing this technique years ago, it has been a very long time since I used it. It was fun to rediscover it.

Then we were instructed use acetate to make a mask. The video talked about tracing a body shape from a magazine page, but I drew my own and cut them out. We were then  to use black paint to cover some of the background around the mask to leave some exposed crayon writing.

I  didn't like how my black page looked, even adding in some of the other details introduced in  the class video. I ended up adding more paint and then rubbing some off some of the partially dried paint  to show bits of the writing. I also did some stamping with a row of plastic circles as well as using wax pencils and a bit more paint for the details.

There's not much left of the assignment left on my page . After all my fussing about I like the new background, but I am not crazy about my masked people. Perhaps I should have just painted over them, but it was worth staying at least a little bit true to the lesson.

However, I made 2 more pages based on this class. I'm saving one for another day, but this next page I really like.  I even used the same mask, but I love how these ladies look in their  dresses. (I cut out one upper body and 2 different bottoms-one with pants and one with a skirt).

This time I used bronze metallic paint rather than black.

I'm linking up to Art Journal Journey and the Favorite Things challenge.  Two of my favorite things is learning something new and rediscovering forgotten techniques.

Have a great start to your weekend.

Fisherman's Dream

Hi everyone. Today I have a short post with another page for Chris' Hold the Line Challenge at Art Journal Journey
And today my LINE is  a fishing line.
Today's page is a slightly mixed media painting by me. I started by spraying the background with dark blue ink. Then on a separate sheet of paper, I create the boat and fussy cut it out.  I painted the water with a couple of shades of blue acrylic paint as well as a blue Stabilo pencil. The 3 fish in the water are gold paper fish, but those jumping out are ones I painted and drew in details.  I also drew, painted and put in  the details on the man, as well as his fishing pole.  I wish he didn't look quite as stiff or folk-art like, but I don't dislike him.
Finally after painting in the clouds, I stamped and added the little quote.
I call this Fisherman's Dream because those fish jumping out of the water look like want to jump right right into his boat. They might be little fish compared to the ones in the water though, and I know he wants to catch a BIG fish!

That's all for me today.  Thanks for visiting.

Hold the Line

Hi everyone. Happy October. September sure did fly by, and we are now into the wonderful but waning  amount of light of this new month. (And for me, so many must do appointments, birthdays and even my wedding anniversary also. Smile)

And since it is October, it is time to start a new challenge at Art Journal Journey

Thank you Jo for a super challenge last month!

Also, I am excited to welcome to 2  new hosts to Art Journal Journey. Welcome Valerie and Chris to our team! I'm excited to have you on board with us.

Chris is also our host for the month of October. Her challenge is Hold the Line.  Think of any kind of line or anything with lines.

My first page for this month is one near and dear to my heart.

My Dad was an architect, and  I wish I had an old blueprint roll from one of his projects.  It would have made great art backgrounds. Unfortunately I don't have any blueprints, BUT  the last time we worked on cleaning the basement I found a bag with one of his office files in it. This file contained notes and other things from a project my dad worked on, and in that folder was one standard paper sized drawing spec. Chris' challenge this month was the perfect time to use it as there are all kinds of lines.

I made a photocopy of the drawing so I would still have  the original. Then I mounted it on this piece of gelli printed paper.  I stamped the man (an old Claudine Hellmuth image) 3 times. I also stamped the little blue car and the TH quote. The number 3 ephemera seemed to work with the 3 men.  I also added these little metal dots.

I can't wait to see your line  journal pages this month.  It will be a fun challenge.

Thanks for visiting my blog , and I'll see you over at Art Journal Journey

The Queen of the Crows and Some Fish

Hi everyone. Can you believe today is the last day of September?

First for today  I have  a tag for the latest  challenge at Tag Tuesday.  Sandie's choice is book pages.
I have an old Japanese garden book which I used to cover my tag.  I stamped the two koi, colored them, and then stamped the big happiness word. Finally I thought the tag needed a little something, but I didn't want to cover the koi. So I used this TH paper bit, but the 16 doesn't really mean anything directly to the tag.

I also have one more TEXTURE piece for Jo's challenge at  Art Journal Journey. Jo, you've been a wonderful hostess this month. Thanks  for such fun challenge.

So I started a Halloweenish type altered book called Mystery, Mayhem and Magic.  Today's posted page is one page within this altered book.
I started by using some clear modeling paste and a stencil. Once dried, I used some black spray ink. I also cut out the center of the page and added this printed piece of acetate. Then I put some silver tape along the edges and used some brads to hold the tape down better. Finally I added some feathers that I have picked up  on my walks.
Here's the back side of this page (on the left), which I am not sure I have finished. You can also see the crow page that peeks through the acetate.

And here's the cover of my altered book project.

Thanks to all of you who have joined our challenge this month. We'll be back tomorrow with a new challenge for October. Enjoy your day!

The Colors of Autumn

It is time once again for a new challenge at Try It on Tuesday. This time we're asking you to show us the Colors of Autumn.

I went with a  traditional autumn theme for my challenge page.  I used some spray inks, and once they dried, I used some Tim Holtz leaf stamps as part of the background. I also used black ink and stamped both the quote as well as the black designed leaf from Paper Artsy. I thought the black gave some nice contrast with the autumn colors. To give my page a little more autumn color, I then added some painted wooden leaves.

For the next 2 weeks this challenge is open to any kind of art, as long as you use the colors of autumn.

Be sure to check out all the beautiful art from our designers at Try It On Tuesday.

Since the wooden leaves create some texture on my page, I am also linking up to Jo's TEXTURE challenge at Art Journal Journey.

Thanks so much for visiting.

The First Try It On Tuesday for the New Year

Hi everyone. It is time for the challenges at Try It On Tuesday to start up again after a short holiday hiatus. This year we have so many great challenges lined up for you, and our first one is a great way to start of the new year. It is  What a Cutie/ Make Someone Smile Today.

I went with the What a Cutie theme, as I saw this adorable little girl image on someone's blog last year and fell in love with her. She is adorable but looks like she has some spunk too. That is right up my alley. (And perfect for this Try It On Tuesday challenge too.)
Only I had no idea what stamp company made her or where she came from.
And then one day over the holidays when looking at some sale stamps online I came across this set
and there was that cute little girl.
So today I am using her for the first time. The quote is an oldie from my stash that I stamped and cut into 3 smaller pieces.

Check out the inspiration from our design team also over at the Try It On Tuesday blog. I think is a challenge you are going to love!
And don't forget all kinds of art is accepted. So show us your cards, tags, 3D projects, journal pages, paintings, etc.

And I am also going to link up to Jo's Something New challenge at Art Journal Journey as I have my new stamp  to share on this journal page.

Thanks for visiting.

Things with Wings

Hi everyone. Can you believe it is the last day of April already?
That means it is time for a new challenge at Try It On Tuesday. For the next 2 weeks our challenge will be Things With Wings.
Think of all the wonderful things with wings. I chose butterflies but that's hardly scratching the surface.
My page began with me inking watercolor paper. Then I stamped a background image from a set of TH background stamps at a few spots on the page. I used some modeling paste and a stencil. I left the modeling paste white for contrast. I also die cut some similar pink paper with an interlinking circle die and added thata round the modeling paste. I added a few piece of a torn paper ruler (the ones you pick up to measure with in IKEA) as well as some Japanese stamps. Finally time to add the stars of the show, some TH butterfly images. I stamped some postmarks and a couple of phrases a few times over and finally added some stickers to make the title of my page.
Hope you have some time to join us at Try It On Tuesday with your winged art. I look forward to seeing your creations!

See You Soon

I'm off this afternoon! Getting away from this cold New Hampshire weather and this typical late February season. This is a much needed emotional pick up from my soul which just feels very drained and unenthused by much lately.
However-
I am SOOOOOOO excited to go away!
But SOOOOOOOOOOO sad the hubby won't get the time off as he has a huge project he needs to finish up.  So plans have changed a bit, and I am going alone. But at least (if you look for silver lining) I am going to still visit our friends and I'll get away for the week and get away from this winter weather! But still sad the hubby can't come to have all this fun with me.

If you haven't figured it out, I have major travel addiction.
Never more needed than right now.
Going to take a little blogging break-if I get a chance before I leave I might have a pre-post or 2 but I'll have tons to show you and tell you about once I get home.
See you later alligator.
