See That Girl on the Left

See that girl on the left-she's turning 21 today.
Wow.
Here she is with me and her grandmother who just turned 29 again earlier this month.
Born in the middle of the storm that was written about in the book and shown in the movie
"The Perfect Storm".
This year she has no classes at college because of the fall out from Hurricane Sandy another Perfect Super-Storm.
21 years later.
Does that mean her 42cd birthday will be something life changing too?
But believe you me, I am NOT rushing forward to find that out.
Do you think I look tallest in this photo?
That's what we were trying to do, see who looked the tallest.
Oh well, I am NEVER the tallest-
even among 2 short women.
Anyhow-
I am have a delayed opening and wishing I had the day off again but after watching the mess in New York, NJ and lots of other places, we got LUCKY!
Hope where you are everything is OK.
If not, my thoughts and hopes are with you.
Make it a Happy Day to celebrate my baby's birthday.
Thanks for visiting too.

Look Who's Having a Birthday

Today is the hubby's birthday.
I finally don't feel so old since he's caught up to me now.
I can't believe either of us are now in our 50's...we were just in our early 20's.
But that's how life is isn't it?
Moves faster than the speed of light and you just don't know where it has vanished to!
Here's a not so great photo, but its us- the old couple.
Bet Dave never had the fall out rain and wind of a hurricane on his birthday before.
Last year he got his first blizzard on his birthday.
This is how it looked like year when we woke up on October 30th after it snowed all afternoon and night of his birthday.

Wow- this global warming-weird weather -really is happening.)
So I am off from school today because of the weather- they are saying rain and wind...happy to chill out in my sweats-with Katie. Let's hope we don't lose power.
So far so good and it is just a dark rainy morning with a bit of wind-
maybe a fizzle?
So I have been trying to finish reading the new J.K. Rowling book- a Casual Vacancy. She writes really well and I think she has the heart of a story there BUT when is she going to get to it? I think she is used to writing that fabulous multi-volume, 700 pages per book set (Harry Potter of course) that she can't get to the point of anything fast enough. A good learning experience for her I guess.
Anyhow, while lounging in bed on this rainy no-school day I started reading this book.
Which has caught my attention in the first 5 pages and so far is really good. Interesting especially for me since it is set in Boston- a city I love and kind of know- and talks about the  Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum which is great private home/turned to art museum in the city. Will let you know if it keeps going the way it is but right now I recommend it.
So stay dry and keep your hair from blowing around-
Enjoy your Monday everyone and
thanks for visiting.

An Oldie but a Goodie

I spent a good chunk of my day in both cities...actually in 1 building that straddles both cities- The Boston Museum of Science with my biology class. A good day and fun was had by all. A good way to end a long work week.

Here's a 1 layer  Christmas card made just from stamping images on white paper and attaching the white design onto a card made from dark green cardstock. I made this card a year or 2 ago...not exactly sure how long ago it was. Maybe even 3 years ago. I LOVE using this  North Pole map image from the no longer in business stamp company- Toybox. I think it is a great Christmas stamp-maybe because I just find maps so interesting and of course the North Pole is home of Santa. Anyhow, that image is stamped first in brown ink. Then I stamped in the black the old fashioned flying Santa. I honestly don't know who made that stamp. But this is one of my favorite vintage Santa sleigh and reindeer stamps. Then I added 3 other stamped images. One is the green holly image going up the left side. I used green ink and red Sakura jellyroll pen to make all the little smudgy dots. I think this stamp is from a clear set of Hampton Art Stamps. Then I stamped the postmark and the saying. I think the postmark is from the same set as the holly. It is a clear stamp set...maybe someone knows for sure since I just have the set but not the wrapping that it came in. As I said, it has been a long time since I made this card.
Oh yeah, and then I distressed this card with a bit of brown ink and a stipple brush.
Anyhow...busy Saturday ahead.
Enjoy your day!

I need a cupcake

Snapped this photo through my windshield in front of a local cup cakery. That's how I feel tonight-Wednesday night-though I am posting this Thursday.
My exhaust in my car has an issue-had to drop it off in the shop tonight. UGH! Hopefully something inexpensive, since I don't get paid for another week.  But I sound like I am riding a Harley- me the middle aged moma in the station wagon-LOL!
And amazing how going back to work for 3 days, and Katie not even home, and how messy the house is!
Man...it is amazing how spending just a few minutes each morning picking up-like I do in summer when I'm not at work, keeps things a little cleaner and neater. Not enough time before work though- since I leave the house by 6:30 a.m. and I don't want to get up any earlier to clean my house. No way!
And on top of that-it is SEPTEMBER!
Wow- summer really is winding down-Labor Day weekend almost here! Today is my first day with all the kids and my classes back on schedule. School is really in session now.
Happy Happy Thursday-keep your fingers crossed that when I hear about my car it will be CHEAP!
