T Stands for Theater Week

 Hi everyone. Happy new week to you, and if you're stopping by for T over at Bleubeard's and Elizabeth's blog, happy T day to you.

    The last week and a half  I have been busy going to the movies and also to a live performance. I only went to one live performance, but I actually went to 5 movies. That's  more movies than I  usually go  and see in a whole year. Ha ha! 😏 And none of those 5 movies were even  new or new-to-me films.  

   You might remember back in February my friend Deb and I went to see the first 4 of the Harry Potter movies. (My T day post about those 4 movies is here.) The local theater where we saw the first 4 films in February was showing the last 4 in the series around the Labor Day Weekend. Of course we had to go  and  finish seeing them. 😉

   We saw 2 films  (numbers 5 and 6) on one day and then a couple of days later we saw the last 2 movies (numbers 7 and 8). You might think I'm crazy doing that since you can see them on TV, but seeing a movie on a big screen in the dark makes the movie a very different thing. You can see small details that are hard to pick out on the TV, and with the surround sound of the theater it's much more of a dimensional experience. It was great to see all 8 Harry Potter films on the big screen relatively close to each other.

   The other movie I went to see was Jaws. It was rereleased in theaters for its 50th anniversary with a limited engagement. It's one of my favorite films, and every summer my husband and I watch it on TV from the DVD we own. I saw it on the big screen back in 1975 when it first came out in theaters 50 years ago. I also saw it on the big screen one other time, but that time the crowd was very rowdy and were making all kinds of loud comments during the film so it wasn't the best viewing experience.  I wanted to see it again on the big screen, so did my friend Deb, who is not only a Harry Potter fan but also a Jaws fan.  On the last day it was showing we caught a matinee showing. 

     We were also the only 2 people in the theater, so we picked the best seats in the house, front and center. ❤ And ha ha. There is one scene where a head rolls out of a boat underwater, and I knew it was coming. I even said to Deb, "Here comes the head", but I still jumped out of my seat. That's the big screen effect. Grin.

   But the movies weren't my only performance. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I went to one live theater performance too.

   A group of friends and I went to see a musical at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Ogunquit, Maine. I borrowed this next photo from Wikipedia to share  because of course, I never took any photos. (They also weren't allowed during the performance.) We didn't jump on tickets very quickly, but we did manage to find 4 seats together for a matinee after trying a lot of different dates. They were like the last 4 seats together and maybe even the last 4 seats in the theater that day so we were lucky.

   We went to see a fun musical called When Elvis Met Beatles. 

    Boy some people really can sing. It was a fun day out. We first had lunch at a restaurant right on the ocean  at a place called Jackie's Too (sorry, forgot to take photos there also) before the  play. 

   For this week's drink here's a photo I snapped on my phone of my dinner ( a big bin of popcorn) as well as a drink ( a diet Pepsi) that I had before one of the Harry Potter films. I have to laugh since what's on the movie screen behind my popcorn, but a photo of some popcorn. And if you wondered why I bought such a big popcorn, that's because I brought home the rest to my husband who was ailing with his bad back. It was much appreciated. (And luckily his back is still improving.)

  Before I sign off I just want to mention that unless my husband's back gets worse and we have to cancel, I won't be around for the next 2 weeks of T Day. We are scheduled to head out later this week for a vacation in Maine and then onto Nova Scotia, Canada. Until then, have some super T days and some great weeks ahead. 

T Stands for A Week in the Heat

   Hi everyone. Happy new week to you. Happy July to everyone too, even if you stop by Monday night and it's still June. I know I say this all the time (about time flying that is), but I can't believe  July is here, we're into the second half of 2025 already.

   It is time for T Day over at  Bleubeard's and Elizabeth's blog again. Last week at my house we had a mix of very hot and humid weather  (highs around 101 degrees F/38 degrees C) and some beautiful, not quite so hot weather. I'm not a fan of the high heat. For a few days when  I was sitting inside because it was too hot to go outside, I ended up watching a movie called Hitchcock from 2012 on Netflix. It was all about when Alfred Hitchock made the movie Psycho, and it was pretty good. Then I noticed Netflix had several original Hitchcock films in their line up, so I ended up  watching or rewatching The Man Who Knew Too Much, Psycho, and Vertigo.  Other than the clothes and other time dated styles, those films really do still hold up well.   I think I'm now back on a Hitchcock watching binge as there's a few other of his films on Netflix I wouldn't mind seeing again.

         

    The other thing from last week was I spent some of my time up at my mother-in-law's house. This summer, like last summer, my husband and his sisters are all getting weeks  when the house is theirs. Last week was one of  our weeks, and since we don't live very far away, it was easy to go up for a while to take a swim and let the dogs swim too. 

      Of course the one afternoon I had invited friends up to hang out and swim it was cloudy and not so warm. 😒 We had lunch on the dock and some good catching up for a few hours, but then it started to rain. Luckily the rain didn't come until it was getting time for us all to head home, so I'm not complaining.

     I need a drink for T day, and this photo is from one time when I was at the lake earlier this season, but it was not from last week. I don’t think I’ve shown it before, and it goes with my lake photos so here's my ticket to T this week.

Tuesday is Meatloaf Day

It is another Tuesday and another T day.

This week for T I am sharing my Saturday evening supper.

This past weekend my husband and I were out all day Saturday running errands. We ended up traveling to Manchester, New Hampshire for one of those errands. Its about an hour drive from our house. Manchester is the biggest city in our state and there are lots of places to eat there. One of my favorite places is called the Airport Diner. They serve lots of old fashion home style foods that taste great and also, they have pretty fast service. Since it was later in the afternoon and since we still had the drive home, we decided to stop and have dinner first. 

The Airport Diner is open 24 hours a day and is over near the Boston-Manchester Airport.  They are part of the Common Man family of restaurants which is locally owned and so far can only be found here in New Hampshire. 

I had a favorite meal.

Home-style meatloaf, mashed potatoes, carrots and a dinner roll. And a glass of water. This meal was only $8.99.

And yummy!

And even better than the meatloaf was the dessert the hubby and I split.

This "little" hot fudge sundae. The only bad part was the hubby got to the cherry before I did. But that's OK because I let him pay. :)

Also this past weekend I watched an old movie. I actually watched it by accident, as when I got up Saturday morning the hubby was watching it on TV. I got sucked into it, and luckily we can record it from the TV, so Sunday afternoon I managed to watch the whole movie.

Any of you remember Highlander?

The hubby had seen it already (along with the sequels), but for some reason I had never seen this 1986 sci-fi cult classic.  Yes, parts of it were a bit hokey, and it is so 1980's-which might be why it seemed pretty hokey in parts, but I must say I did enjoy it. 

Now I want to see the sequels.:)

Last Week's Wrap Up

Happy Sunday everyone. Its another very summery day here in New Hampshire.

Got to love it!

So today I have lots of photos-its kind of a long post- just warning you!

Photos, books, movies....and all that jazz.

So I survived Friday's trip into Mass General Hospital in Boston. I went through a round of tests and doctor's visits and still have a few tests left to complete with my regular doctor. Then we shall see if I am continuing on.

If nothing else I am getting a really good check up.

As I traveled down into Boston with my sister-in-law (who is also interested in being a donor), my daughter and one of her daughters, we took a walk down to the Hard Rock Cafe (one of my daughter's favorite places to visit) for a very late lunch (so late it ended up being dinner too!). I got a few snapshots while I walked.

 The Friday afternoon crowds at Fannueil Hall. I notice those bare trees on the front left.  Heard the gypsie moth caterpillars are around and eating a bunch of leaves off of trees. You can notice their damage here and there.

 And this is Old South Church near the hospital. Love this old architecture interspersed with the big city growth.

 And look at these fun cement barriers around a construction project. I wonder if they come that way or if some artist went by and just painted them.

Here's the girls.  That's my daughter on the left. She's toasting with one of those fruity summer specialty drinks.

And this brownie sundae was big enough for all 4 of us to eat, and leave some behind too.

And yesterday before we went out in our boat I had one this fabulous lobster rolls at a local sandwich place called Lexie's Landing. We went last week so I could have one and they had just sold their last lobster roll. So yesterday instead of waiting for dinner  we went for a quick lunch. (Lexie's Landing is just a kitchen with some picnic tables out front. They have a small restaurant in Portsmouth too-nothing fancy their either, but their burgers, sandwiches and tacos are really really good). I love living in lobster land. 

Otherwise I read 2 books and started a third one this week.

I am reading this now and enjoying it. It is set in India, and more of a fun, slightly poking fun at Indian society mystery series rather than a hard boiled intense read. This is the first one. 

 And I read this slightly quirky story about magic, love, science and life.  I really enjoyed this book.

The general gist is these 2 friends planned their kids (1 has a girl and 1 has a boy) so their kids will grown up and fall in love with each other. They'll have the same loves and jobs and all that kind of thing. This is story about the kids and then their mothers (the friends)

 An lastly I read about Harold Fry, which was such a good book. You've probably read it since its been out a bit, but if not, I highly recommend! And now the "sequel" about Queenie Hennessy has come out and I want to read that too.

I've also been watching lots of movies lately at night, mostly old ones, but this past week I watched 2 that aren't ancient. The Trip, which had lost of impressions and some laughs, about 2 British men on a food critic's journey through Northern England, and also The Woman in Gold, about the woman who's family lost Klint's The Woman in Gold portrait during World War II and how she fought the system to get it back. The Trip was enjoyable and made me laugh. The Woman in Gold was really good, but I love Helen Mirren anyhow. My husband was home when I put on the Woman in Gold and he said he was probably going to fall asleep (which is par for the course for him at night-especially if its not a sci-fi movie with lots of women in tight space suits-ha-ha) but he stayed awake through the whole thing and even said it was a good film.

I also did some Shibori dying of fabric this past week-which I will post another day because I think I have said and written too much as it is.

I Baked a Cake This Past Week

I tried to decorate it with some food coloring markers but the frosting was a little soft.

I'll try it another time on something with a stiffer coating.

And I read this book.

This book was quite a good mystery.

And I went and saw this movie. It was a Saturday night date with my hubby. I ate a lot of a large bag of popcorn (naughty me but it tasted soooo good) and found the movie entertaining, but not as good as the first Avengers movie. Not a bad movie though.

And I bought a few new roses which I need to plant still, and as you can see in this photo, I need to trim away the dead wood on my old roses (which are in the upper left corner of the photo.)

Once the black flies are aren't as bad as they are right now I will do that. (Way too buggy to do any gardening outside right now.) Its the curse of living in the north where the winters are long, and then when you finally get spring weather you gets thousands or millions of these little annoying biting insects.

And I bought a few new colors of Silks paints too.

These are bright colors for my summer journaling.

And I've been enjoying these bright spring blooms.

And I love having leaves!

Random

This post is about as random with no focus as it gets. I will start off with a little piece from my holiday journal I am making. 

I did a bunch of journaling on the backside. I used leaves to make the wings on this heart. 

That's about as clever as it gets.

The little girl is turning into quite the snuggler. Especially since its gotten really cold suddenly.

I was worried her being so short furred and being a southern belle she might not like the cold.

But not her. It just gets her all wound up.

Man, it isn't quite winter yet even. Look how cold it got yesterday morning here. Our first really cold morning.

Oh boy.

Last night I had a wonderful quiet Friday night to myself. It was exactly what I needed at the end of my week. I tried one of these beers from a set I'd picked up at Trader Joe's. The set even comes with these nice pint glasses.

Oh man, a new delicious favorite brew.

And I've wanted to see this film so I Red-boxed it last night and did some knitting. And enjoyed my pint. Enjoyed the movie too. I'm having a blast knitting this Christmas stocking. I will have a finished product for you next week I think.

After the movie finished I watched another episode of Season 2- last Tango in Halifax.

Enjoying that too.

And this is my daughter's first own Christmas tree.

Her boyfriend built her a fake mantel to put up against the wall so she could hang their stockings and decorate it.

And I decorated my dining room light. I made the snowflakes hanging, though you can't see them very well here.

So any big plans for this weekend?  Tonight we have a hockey game. Our team will most likely lose; they are not having a good season so far.

But it will be fun to go out and then I get to be low key for the rest of the weekend.

My Lips Are Sealed

I promise I am not going to go on about how I had to get up and go back to work today.

PROMISE!

Instead I want to show you snippets from  the last 3 days, my weekend (shhh-and end of my vacation!). 

Makes me SMILE!

I didn't expect much, but I enjoyed this film. I enjoyed spending Friday afternoon with my hubby too. We had cool rainy weather and sitting in a movie theater was a good choice.

And Saturday I spent my day having a blast taking 2 classes with Dina Wakely.

We made some fun journal pages. I had my first try using Pan Pastels (oh super nice), Gelatos (like Lipstick) and learned some great techniques

Here's a couple of the pages I made.

I highly recommend taking a Dina class if you ever get the chance.  I'll show you a few more views from those classes once I finish up couple more journal pages I started in class.

And then yesterday the hubby took me out for breakfast and then we went cruising in the boat. We were going to go fishing- but no one, along with us, was catching much of anything. So we took a cruise out to the Isle of Shoals, a group of several small rocky islands that are 6 miles offshore. Some are in Maine, and some are in New Hampshire.

I love how they feel rustic, New England and historical. And it was a gorgeous day!

It was a fantastic weekend.  I hope next weekend is as nice-especially since it is a holiday weekend here in the US.
