The Golden Sun

Hi everyone. It a beautiful sunny Saturday morning here in New Hampshire, but the wind is whipping and it is cold again, even colder feeling with this strong wind. But it is Saturday and I am having a lazy morning watching a BBC show about the Yukon Gold Rush, checking out blog posts and getting an occasional update from my daughter who is on her way to Florida. (Lucky her to escape winter right now.)
I've managed to have a lot of art time these past couple of weeks, squeezing in a hour here and there over quite a few days. This piece is one I  made but that I am on the fence about whether I like it or not.
It began with me using up some yellow paint as part of the background.  I then stamped the chicks, as I had one idea for the page, which actually never happened. I added the sun and painted the rays of golden light. I used some Stickles and a bit of  lighter yellow paint to make those sunrays glitter more. Although they are rather messy I do like how they glisten, just like real sunbeams tend to do.
I added the vintage mom and her little girls.
The house was an afterthought because the page looked a little empty, so I used some Stabilo pencils to sketch it. And with just a tad of white paint, I finished it off.
It needs a quote, but I haven't found one yet. I thought it was worth sharing even without it.
I am going to link it up to Rike's yellow challenge at Art Journal Journey
Thanks for visiting! I appreciate you taking a few minutes to stop by my blog.

I like Froebelsternchen's idea of a quote! I'm glad that you added the house because that's my favorite part. I love the crooked windows and how cozy it looks.

Nice to see warm sunshine instead of the cool sunshine outside my window. Your page is so bright and happy. And I'll try not to think of the nasty weather coming our way on Wed. and on Fri.

It was so interesting to read how you start the page and that there was another intention as the page turned out - that is really creative! Your sun with these glittering sunrays is fantastic, the yellow chicken so cute as they are wandering through the picture! To add this lovely lady with her children and that yellow house was a great idea!
Thank you for linking your gorgeous yellow page to AJJ! I appreciate it!
Big Hugs-Rike

P.S. I'm not sure what size this is, but if you can come up with a version that is 4" x 6" you can enter it at Sunday Postcard Art, where the theme this week is The Sun. This would fit in perfectly.

You've bathed everything in beautiful, bright sunshine Erika - what's not to like, lol? Love the characters AND the chicks :-) Very countrified. Your daughter is very lucky to be going to Florida - some of us can only dream, he, he!

Have a great weekend. Cath x

Its a beautiful sunny page Erika and it tells its own story as you look at all the detail you added. The way you created those sunbeams is amazing, you can really see them sparkle.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

I can't believe the house was an after thought. It is incredible, as is the brilliant sun, and the baby chicks. This is a wonderful, cheery, bold page, dear Erika. I'm super impressed. BTW, I often create art that doesn't include words. I like that people can come up with their own ideas and interpret the page in their own way when they see the page. Thanks for sharing it with us at Art Journal Journey.

Hope your daughter is now sitting on the beach in FL.

A lovely happy and sunny page!! I bet in real life it will look better still as glittery shimmer never seems to show up on photos.... Love the happy cosy feel of it all. I just happened to see Susi's suggestion for a quote, - perfect I would think....
Enjoy the rest of the weekend, it was super windy and sometimes sunny here too. Your daughter is indeed lucky!

I love your Art journal page Erika !! It´s so bright, sunny and happy to see, so warm !! It´s a great idea to add gold rays and the so lovely house, it´s a spring day !! love the chickensss. Sometimes I don´t want to add words or quote to my pages too, just to live our imagination on its way.
I wish you a very nice day, and send you big hugs,

I love this just as it is and don't think it needs a quote. The shower of bright, glowing rays of sun reaching out over that home and that sweet family makes me feel warm inside. I'm googling "Stickles" ;)

How funny that you added the house afterwards as it looks as if it was there first. I love the march of the chicks. I hope they are going somewhere nice - of course they are. You made this backwards and it turned out great. Now there's an art-making tip.

Lovely page, Erika. I love the sunshine scene you created. What a happy family in a country house! Whether in Greece is sunny too, although it is winter.
And, I do have started reading the two books of Davenport that I bought (faces and figures). Let's see when I will end them! Hugs, sweetie.

I love how you have done the rays of sunshine, the addition of some glitter sounds just about right. This is a real sunny page and perfect for the challenge of 'yellow'.
