Texture is the New Challenge

Happy September everyone.   It's a new month and almost time to start the transition into autumn. Although I do miss the longer days of early summer, those cooler nights sure make it nice sleeping.

I am here  to welcome Jo  as our new hostess at Art Journal Journey for the month of September.

This month our new challenge is Jo's pick, and it is TEXTURE.

But before I get too far into the post, I once again want to thank Alison for a fantastic challenge in August. It was great thinking out of the box about pockets and tags.

Here's my first texture journal page for September. I created my background texture in a multi-step process.

1) I began with sme used and dried up baby wipes. I ripped them into shreds and used some matte medium to glue them down in a rough manner.

2) I used some various acrylic pants as well as brushes and a wet baby wipe to spread and blend them.

3) Then once the paints dried, I took a stencil and some black paint over the whole page.  I only stenciled areas but I did the areas over the whole page.

I then added some scrap bits from my scrap image box. and the black circle tissues are from some Dina Wakely printed tissue paper I have. I used a bit of coffee colored ink to connect all my scrap bits and  blend them into the background a tiny bit.

I stamped the men and the steampunk bird on white paper and fussy cut them. I also stamped the explorer 1900 phrase directly onto my background. I finished off by adding the TH word quotes.

It should be interesting to see all the different ways to get texture on a page.
Hope to see you soon over at Art Journal Journey.

You have certainly created a great deal of texture, Erika. Your background must jave taken forever and it is beautiful. I love how you used the stencils, too. Thanks so much for sharing this first of many beauties this month with us using Jo's theme at Art Journal Journey.

This is terrific, Erika, some different images here to amuse us. I love the Bingo cards - do you think the men would like to play Bingo?
I like the words too.

What a fab collage Erika. I love all of the things you have done to get so much texture into this. Great how you started out with baby wipes and then went on from there to add all those things. Love the composition, the colour and can imagine the texture!
Brill.
