Twisted

Hi everyone. Happy Thursday.

Today Rain's Art and Dinner Date is TWISTED. I thought today I'd share some photos with you on this theme.

The most obvious twist is rope.

As is this yellow waxed thread twisted around the cardboard spool.

Then there's this seaweed on the beach which ended up somewhat twisted around itself when waves washed it onto the shore.

These spiral stairs at the Peabody Essex Museum are twisted too.

And this past Tuesday, the 25th, was DNA day. It was the day in 1953 when James Watson and Francis Crick  published their DNA paper ( as well 2 other papers by Maurice Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin), and the world of biotechnology really took off. Here's a couple of journal pages I made in 2021 that show some DNA with its famous double helical twist.

And finally on the twist theme for today,  I have a new journal page to share. I wanted to use one of Elizabeth's favorite words since she, as well as her sidekick Bleubeard, have been hosting over at Art Journal Journey this month. Since April is wrapping up, here is my penultimate journal spread for her challenge. You probably know the challenge this month is recycle, reuse and repurpose.

The sentiment  of the quote goes right along with the word twisted.

I used a stencil, a dried out baby wipe and ink pads to create the background.  The images are from an Art by Marlene punch out  booklet.  And finally the quote is recycled from an old magazine page.

Since it's been a cloudy and showery week, I had some inside time. I did a bit of baking and made this lemon poppyseed bundt cake.

I have this fancy bundt pan, but I haven't  always had great luck with cake coming out in 1 piece. It worked on this cake though, so I was excited that it even looks  pretty. 😀 Would you like a piece?

Have a super day and the rest of your week also.

What a fun post! I love the spiral staircase. Your cake is beautiful. I don't think I've seen a fancier Bundt pan. Sun is out this morning, maybe a shower later this afternoon. Friday is supposed to be the pick of the week.

Those are fun examples of twisted. And your cake looks delicious. Lemon --I'll take it! I have trouble getting cakes out of pans like that, too.

That's a very beautiful bundt cake! Can you use the yellow waxed thread as a sub. of kitchen twine?

The seaweed looks like a bird! The ocean is a great artist.

Woww beautiful Artpages Erika! I really like the idea you've had to focus them on DNA, it's fantastic. They are very colourful and cheerful, they really make you want to delve into science.
Your cake must be delicious, and I really like how your yellow book turned out. How many things can you include!
I wish you a very happy Friday, big hugs dear friend

Loving your take on twisted, the rope is perfect 😊. Your pages are such fun too with the helix and figures, and I love the Marilyn Monroe quote, so true! Of course a piece of your fancy lemon and poppyseed cake would be so yummy with my cuppa today, I always have this type of muffin when I go out with my sister 😉. Happy Friday and weekend! Hugs, Jo x

You have come up with a great set of images for this theme, Erika. Maybe you can explore even further and find images of politicians twisting themselves into knots to obfuscate, waffle and deny. It shouldn't be hard to find lots of pictures like that. I am sure we can all come up with several names as instant candidates! ! I am very happy that the biologist in you came up with DNA! hugs - David

Great photos and art. (Are you getting a lot of rain this weekend? I didn't look at the radar, to see how wide spread this thing is. But rain brings flowers!)

Save me a piece ... I am on my way to your house now!!! And, my mouth is watering. Lemon Bundt Cake is my absolute favorite sweet treat!

Your twists and turns are wonderful and I love the DNA and I agree, Now is the time to understand more so that we may fear less. Sad that our resources are not always honest and there is so much false narrative being slung out there. I remember when DNA was announced to the world ... we did a lot of talking about it in school. Your "Imperfection is beauty, etc. " is wonderful too. And no one really wants to be thought of as ridiculous, but being boring would be ... well, boring :0
Your piece of seaweed looks like the decomposing remains of a crow ... ugh, but cool. And a fancy rope ... you didn't have just a plain rope? It, of course, is awesome. So another homerun for your team ... love it all, Erika. Happy Spring ... I assume it has arrived in your neck of the woods.
