A Pink Party

Hi everyone. Happy Thursday. How has your week been going?  The good news is the tropical heat is gone (for the moment) in my area, and it's cooled off a bit. A touch of what's to come I guess. All the back to school ads are everywhere too, and there's a voice in my head reminding me my summer is  winding down. After all, it's August and almost time for back to school. But wait a minute. I don't have to go back to school. Thank goodness I can enjoy summer until it is really over. I guess old habits from being a teacher for 36 years die hard, even as I start my 5th year of retirement. 😏

Today I have a page for Jo's Wonderful Wild challenge at Art Journal Journey. I am also linking up to Creative Artiste's Mixed Media challenge. This month it is challenge # 107, and as always the theme is Anything Goes.

I've seen flamingos in parks and zoos, but I would love to see a big wild flock. That's the idea behind my page today, and I made sure there had been lots of shrimp in their diet to make them this lovely pink color. 😏

I started with a piece of magazine paper from Somerset Studio. I liked the lightly designed leaves and flowers on the 2 corners. They made me think of warm and tropical. I then die cut the little island and palm trees. I inked them to color them. I used a flamingo set of dies and die cut all the birds from pink paper. Then I colored in the wings with a darker pink marker, used orange on their legs and black for their bills and eyes. I arranged them randomly on my page.

The sun is a painted piece of chipboard. While that paint was drying I used yellow and then pink watercolor paint to create a bright area around  where the sun would go. I colored in the face with markers and a white  pen, and then I attached the sun to my page. First I took some yellow Stickles glitter glue and added that to the water colored area as well as the sun, and then I used some pink Stickles over the yellow.

After all that dried, I stamped the quote (another oldie) and added the 3 little sequin pineapples to the bottom of the island.

That's all for me today. Hope your day is going or goes well.

That would make cute card. Alternately, the sentiment could be you've been flocked 🤣Cloudy and chilly. I hope the sun comes out later and it warms up before more rain. Have a great day!

Yeah to the heat and humidity finally being gone (at least for now). I have only seen flamingoes in zoos and they are a colorful group. I am reading one of your book recommends as an e-book, The Last Van Gogh.

P.S. just to reassure you, I do have a lovely hardback copy of Pride and Prejudice on my bookshelf, which will not be sacrificed to art ;-)

The pink flamingos are pretty. I'm in the mood for autumn. Today outside it was like fall with the black walnut leaves falling. So fun.

It seems early to be to be starting back to school, but back in the olden days when I was a child we didn't start back til after labor day.

I love that hot, radiating sun.

I always think the same when I see all the Back-to-school stuff - and then am happy and relieved that I do NOT have to go back to school. Even though I will be back this fall semester for a few days as a substitute teacher. It will be so nice to see my old class again in a very familiar setting.
Your flamingoes are wonderful. I have seen a flock in the wild from a distance in the South of France many years ago. I have no idea whether they're still or whether tourism has chased them away (which would be really sad). Have a great weekend, Erika.

I love flamingos. The Flamingo Casino in Vegas has them just walking about in a nature area and oh, so wonderful!

Those flamingos really tickled me pink. I love how you colored them. This is a great entry for Jo's theme at AJJ. I am also contemplating a flamingo page, but after seeing yours, I don't think it would begin to compare.

I spent half my life going to school and as much as I enjoyed it,. IL am SO glad I won't ever be going back. I know what you mean by old habits. I can't believe it's been that long since you retired. Seems like yesterday. Have a great weekend, dear.

Heat... this is.... still wait for that on our day off.
But I´ll go with your pink in blue (standing on one leg for a minute at least to train my brain for the ear-loss) - FlamINGO, as my friend calls it.
A happy Friday (as I´m late again)... Hugs

How fun and adorable is your page, Erika!! I really, really love the flamingos--it looks like they're totally unbothered by the fiery sun, lol! Very clever of you to use glitter glue around the sun, too. Thanks so much for sharing this with us at Creative Artiste for our Anything Mixed Media Goes challenge! Anita xo

Yesterday we sat out for an hour or so, plastered with sun cream and wearing big hats. Today I am sat inside with the wind blowing the trees like crazy, it's blowing a hooley out there and the rain is lashing the windows. Not even sticking my toe out. This weather is so unpredictable.
Not like your sunny page at all. I love the background tothe sunshine that you created and the pink flamingos are fabulous, as is the little island you made.
Are those pineapples I espy?
Hugs Neet xx
