Halloween is Coming

Hi everyone. Happy Friday! I have a long weekend ahead of me. I think the holiday is now called Indigenous People Day, but used to be called Columbus Day. Maybe. No one I talk with seems to know what the official name is. And it's also my mother's 90th birthday tomorrow, so my daughter and I are off to throw her a little party, even if it is just the us as guests.
A fun thing about October is being able to get a little spooky. This fall I have been having fun collaging in a couple of board books. You've seen some bits of my Autumn book  in previous posts, and today you get to see a bit of the Halloween one.

My main theme is witches for the whole book, but that doesn't mean you can't add in a little other fun spookiness.
By doing all this collaging, I've really been able to clean off my work table too. Big smile. It really needed it.  And there's just something relaxing about collaging, especially after a busy day at work.

Enjoy the start of your weekend!

I absolutely adore these pages. They are fun, fabulous, and rather witchy, too. I am in awe of how you got all these disparate images to go so well together. Great pages.

To comment on Ike. Yes, he was an honest man. He didn't want to be president because he didn't believe a military man should be president. Only after both parties wanted him to run, did he finally decide to. He refused in 1948 when Truman asked him to be his VP. Then Truman offered to support him in 52. Not sure why he decided to be a republican, but if he was alive today, he would probably do something to be sure Trump was impeached.

Your spooky pages are so fun and glamour. I love the little ditty Buy A Broom.

I heard Maine was the first or one of the first states to change the name of the holiday to Indigenous People's Day. I don't think Massachusetts has followed suit, yet. Whatever the holiday weekend is called, I hope you enjoy it. Happy Birthday to your mom.

Not sure which witch is the spookiest, Erika, although I did think of the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz. Birthday wishes to your mother and hope you all have a wonderful celebration.

Completely spectacular! The purple shades are full of beauty (and a touch of poison... Deadly Nightshade, anyone?!). I love the idea of a whole book full of witches (so maligned by male religious forces over the centuries... I hate to think of the amount of wise woman knowledge lost to us in the witch hunts), and this page is full of magic. Great collaging, and the woman at the heart of it is magnificent. (Oh, and so are Will's words too, of course!)

Ironic you should comment on the New Mexico flag. I realize NM's flag has been around for a few years longer than Wichita's (1925 vs 1937), but only recently, when our flag became so popular with Kansans, NM decided to sue Wichita. NM didn't win because it was "assumed" the Native American aspect of the flag was universal. There were other reasons, too, but I forgot what they were.

I love your spooky artwork. October is a fun month, with an excuse for making Halloween artwork all month long. (Unfortunately I'm behind schedule still.) The party for your mother's birthday sounds like it will be fun. We had light rain and overcast days this past week. It was also very windy. So the weather has been a bit unsettled here in CT.
