Inspired by Maddie

Hi everyone. I hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Today I am back with another song inspired page for Alison's challenge at Art Journal Journey. Maybe I'll make a movie page yet. This month we're celebrating songs and movies.

Today the inspiration for my page is my dog Maddie, and I've decided the song my page references is her theme song.

Say My Name is a 1999 song from Destiny's Child. I can't say I'm familiar with a lot of pop music from about 1990 on, but I had a teeny-bopper daughter at the time this song came out. This song got a lot of air time  on the radio as well as from the CD in my house.

And this song really fits Maddie. She is a princess as much as Beyonce (who was part of Destiny' Child in case you aren't familiar with members of Destiny's Child) is music star royalty. I can't say I've ever had a dog who feels it is our job to entertain her. Maddie is definitely a high maintenance dog. This song's style may not be my top listening pick, but I love singing this song to my princess pup.

And she loves responding to hearing her name too.

I have no idea why I can't get the color on my whole spread photo to match those of each half spread photo.  I made my background with pink and yellow watercolors.  I used a black Sharpie to outline the letters of the song title. I colored in each letter with a pink watercolor marker and used a wet paintbrush to spread that color around a bit. Finally I outlined each letter with a black pen and some dashed lines.

I used a light grey marker and a stencil to add all the musical notes and staffs around my page.

Finally I drew in Maddie. I colored her with some markers. I'm not thrilled with how the back ear came out; it kind of looked like a toupee on her head. With some playing I more or less fixed it, at least a little bit. I also made this page the same week I went to the town hall to register the dogs and get them new dog tags, so I used one of last year's tag on her collar.

And if you're wondering why there is blue on her tongue, it's because Maddie is part chow-chow, and they have blue tongues. Maddie has a splotchy colored tongue, blue and pink.

I wrote in the words Maddie would say if she could speak human English, and I added a few little foam embellishments around her.

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend.
Thanks for visiting.

I LOVE your beautiful spread honouring your princess Maddie, give her a hug from me and tell her she is famous in all the world. This was really a fantastic idea and the perfect song for Alison's challenge. Have a great Sunday, and a good start in the new week, hugs, Valerie

Adorable page. Cute and funny story, too. You need to get Maddie a tiara. Enjoy the day, today, dodge those raindrops.

I love a bit of Destiny's Child and recognised the song immediately! Such a great idea to add Maddie to your page too - what fun 😁. We've been away this past week visiting family so I need to catch up with everyone, seeing all the song and film pages everyone has been creating is great fun too. Happy Sunday! Hugs Jo x

I remember the group but not the song. I guess, when you have a dog you say it´s name quite often :) Love the Journal :)

Dogs sure are different to cats ;-)
And dogs are different to dogs, too.
I could shout out "Inka!!!" and... nope. Nothing, nada. She had her own things to do.
Beautiful page for your princess, hugs and to a great new week!

Your drawing of Maddie looks great with that vibrant pink background she deserves to be in the limelight and be the star of your journal spread. A fantastic page Erika.

What a wonderful way to honor your princess Maddie. I also LOVE how you used your old tag on the page. I think that may be my favorite oart of the journal page, but I love those stenciled music notes, too. This is a great entry for Alison's theme at Art Journal Journey and great inspiration, too.

Everyone needs to have a princess dog, only pet owners will understand how needy some dogs can be. I laughed at your song choice, great match to Maddie and a great name to call.. it has a real ring to it. Lovely drawing of her amongst the princess pink background. Hugs Tracey xx

Maddie deserves a tiara, and tea in bed and all that goes with the title of Princess. She sounds delightful and a great companion to have.
Love the page, very pink but what other colour would fit - none. A fab painting of Maddie herself.
Hugs, Neet xx
